Summary
After the disappearance and presumed death of Captain Flint and Long John Silver, Max smuggles Jack and Anne to Oglethorpe’s plantation. Thomas learns that not only do the three of them have a friend in common, but he is not the only one whose dreams are haunted by a strange city and a terrifying name.
Meanwhile, Flint and Silver try to escape an island trapped in time, impossibly built and impossibly old. Along the way they’re forced question reality, each other, and themselves.
And in his house in R’lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.
(Prior knowledge of Lovecraft is fun, but not required.)

Summary
Imagine if James and the Hamiltons got their chance, ever so briefly, to follow their passions, their plans. There is no argument, no politics, no ferrying people away in the dead of night. Instead, as they sail towards hope, the pardons still in hand, the Navy brutally take Thomas' life under bright daylight, in the middle of a vast ocean, and dump his body overboard.
Thomas is dead.
They were so close, they were on their way to Nassau, young and naïve and full of hope and determination, and then England said no, and ripped Thomas straight from James' hands.
But James doesn't do no. He is determined, he will undo this, he will dive down into the Underworld itself if he must to get Thomas back. Except nothing is ever as easy as that, and James finds himself faced with choices beyond anything he could have ever imagined possible. For he is not the first to try convincing the Guardian of the Dead to release a lover, and he won't be the last. And the harder he tries, the more entangled he finds himself in the deep...

"All he can give her is this, now – a place beside him in this grave, where so much of him is buried. He will have to put her to rest here; he cannot do it in Nassau. He cannot do it at sea. He cannot do it at all, as he is now. One more piece of him, the piece he gave her, will have to be left here too.
He may not deserve to be free of it, but Jack does."
