Arrested for vandalism at seventeen years old, she's staring down the barrel of mandatory community service at the local hospital in her painfully boring town. Her father is useless. Her best friend is just trying to make it through high school. Her shrink wants her to talk about her dead mother, for some reason.
It's possible that roller derby isn't going to solve any of this, but Jyn doesn't think it'll make it worse, and that's what really matters.

She’d taken it too seriously; had thought that what they went through together on Scarif had bonded them, that there was something there between them.
