Olruggio sits up with a gasp, panting. His blankets are tangled around his legs. Already he is forgetting the dream that woke him. He remembers the cold gleam of starlight, the sensation of falling, a brimmed hat. He shakes his head, grasping at the gossamer threads of the dream as he tries to remember, but the details elude him.
He flops back on his pillows and stares up at the ceiling waiting for his heart to slow. Unfortunately, this has become something of a regular occurrence. Why can’t I remember? He thinks, frustrated. But then, dreams are like that, he supposes. All he knows is they’re getting worse.

There is a bit of a thrill to doing something like that. Catching someone off guard and making them blush. He finds himself thoroughly pleased with this play of romance. All the world’s a stage, he thinks. Is it cruel to toy with Amamiya this way? Perhaps. On the other hand he’s having too much fun to just stop. He feels his own heart race from the adrenaline.
“Actually, are you free tomorrow? There’s this little cafè I’ve been meaning to try…” He tries to keep slightly aloof, but he finds it hard to not sound excited. “Would you like to accompany me?”

Summary
4 years after the events of Persona 5 Royal, Ren Amamiya has created an autonomous exterior that lets him internally ruin himself with daily reminders of the boy he loved. An event he can really only describe as a change of heart diverts him from this self-destructive path and he has to recover from knowing that he’s effectively ended up right back where he was 4 years ago.
Or; Ren Amamiya and Goro Akechi both experience something akin to a change of heart, mildly dissociate, and then crash and burn while helping one another sort through the wreckage.

Summary
“Akira,” Goro says calmly, and Akira finally finds the strength to meet his eyes.
It’s scary, but the world doesn’t end. His eyes are familiar, a comfort, and it scares him more how easily they soothe him, because no matter how hard he searches, he can’t find any concrete evidence on whether they’re real or not. Goro’s eyes are firm and genuine. In direct contrast, his calm demeanor radiates off of him where Akira knows his own terror must be pouring off in waves. Despite that, Akira can see his concern in the determined searching of his eyes, and the tension of his brows.
That Akira knows that if something was totally and utterly wrong with the world around him, that if Goro had come to the same conclusions that he had, he wouldn’t be looking at him like this, makes him want to trust it so bad. That, and the feeling that he owes it to him to say something, lets him overcome himself enough to speak.
“Is this…” he chokes on his words. He tries again, hands squeezing, “Are you real?”
or: akira's no good, very bad, philosophy induced dissociative existential crisis

Two years since the re-set of reality, Goro is truly is living as freely as one can. Which means staying far away from Akira. His rival, his comparison point, his may have been friend, his may have been...well, it’s no use living in what could have been.
