He flinched back—not from her, but from the fear of being a burden twice in one sentence. “It’s okay. Really. Don’t worry. I won’t bother you again.” And he meant it the way drowning people mean, “I don’t need help.”

Nathan accidentally becomes the owner of the Undervale through a card game not long after he escapes his twelfth cult and feels trapped, miserable, lonely and unsure what to do with his life or how to really face his family. He was warned about the demon who lived on the property but can't stop himself from wanting to get closer to the boy.

This can be read completely independently of everything else in the series. This is based on something I mentioned in a previous fic and several people really wanted expanded on. Even though it can be read independently there is more context for what Abaddon went through in the fic 'Things Can Always Get Worse'.Series
