Summary
Dazai is only seven when he is taken from his home and has his pelt stolen. With Mori, the boss of the Port Mafia, holding his pelt there is little he can do but obey orders and wait for the chance to steal it back. Except, even if he does get his pelt back and escape to join the ADA, whose to say that an old partner might accidently get their hands on it. After all, why would Dazai tell an enemy just what he's holding, and that he doesn't enjoy the game of keep away? And there's no way someone would just give it back. Right?

Chuuya never cared much for his birthday, nor for the soulmark that may eventually come with it.
After all, he already has a partner he loves a lot. He doesn't need a soulmate.

If Dazai is anything, he is a perseverer. A stupidly incredible one, at that. Big deal if he passed out after taking a nasty blow. Mori will patch him up and he’ll bounce back in a few days like this was all but a ‘whoops, how silly of me!’ moment.
But he realized after he called for back-up and took Dazai’s pulse like the practice demanded that… no.
He’d… overestimated Dazai’s alleged perseverance.
Or: Dazai refuses to breathe. Chuuya has plenty of say in that matter.

Summary
Dazai sighs, shrugging slightly. Under them, on the training deck, Chuuya body slams one of his instructors, cackling maniacally.
“There’s no time for tea, Hirotsu-san. My dog is so dumb! We need to brainstorm on how to properly train him! He’s so small, a baby, if you will.”
The bruised grunt immediately glows red, and is thrown around the room in circles like he's inside a washing machine.
“A… baby?”
The flying grunt crashes against the observation wall-length window from where they are overseeing the training session. Hirtosu doesn’t say anything, but his silence speaks for itself as he watches the grunt slowly slide down the window, leaving a small trail of drool on the glass.
“A puppy”, Dazai insists, sitting up on the couch, criss-cross-applesauce on the cushion.
Or: Dazai gets it in his head that he has to train his new partner like he's a particularly dumb dog. Chuuya has his own -hidden- agenda. Hirotsu just wants Dazai to take his vitamins.

Shuiji changed his name to Osamu Dazai for personal reasons and both thought the other was dead, until they met again in the Mafia.

You couldn’t crowd Dazai, though. Chuuya’s best guess, the idiot was feeling little, and was just as insecure about it as ever.
It was best to give Dazai space for now. Chuuya was just glad he came over, even if he was still going to fight until he crashed all the way down into headspace. All Chuuya can do for now is leave the stubborn Mackerel be.
Maybe he’ll break out Fishie in an hour if Dazai is still struggling.

“I miss you” Dazai said honestly before his brain could stop his mouth. Which was rare for the genius. Since he always planned every last thing that came out of his mouth down to the last detail. But rare sides of osamu’s personality tended to show whenever it came to chuuya. That’s just how it always was.
“…I miss you too, I guess. I’ll make you some crab and…lay with you in bed as long as you like when I get back alright?” Dazai could tell the red headed man on the other end was flustered. Dazai could picture his red face and it made him want to laugh.
Or chuuya is away on a mission for five days and dazai doesn’t know what to do with himself

Every instinct in Dazai’s body tells him to run. There is no benefit to staying in this room, not when Chuuya will likely get him sick, and where would that put both of them? Double Black can’t be completely out of commission like this, one of them needs to be in working order or the mafia might go belly up. Mori relies too much on their partnership.
Before Dazai can stutter out an answer, the meek voice of his partner completely derails all trains of thought.

The weretiger could feel his hands shaking, the sight of his mentor's face plastered on the news still clear in his vision. He didn’t know what was happening, all that he knew was that Dazai was hurt and he didn’t like it, he didn’t like it one bit. He could feel his eyes water, quickly wiping the oncoming tears away, it was no time for tears, they needed to get to Dazai.
“Dazai Osamu, please,” Kunikida stammered once they reached the reception desk, watching impatiently as the woman smiled and typed on her computer.
“I’m sorry but only family is allowed to visit at this time,” the agency seemed to freeze, family… Dazai didn’t… he didn’t have family. It was well known amongst the agency that most of them simply didn’t have parents, kicked out, abandoned, orphaned, it didn’t matter, and Dazai was surely no exception. The man had never mentioned any family, or seen any for that matter, no siblings, no parents, not even distant relatives had ever shown a single sign of existence.

Chuuya grabbed a shovel off the ground, the wooden handle almost twice his size as he waddled towards the pile. He thought he was being sneaky, but his feet on soft rock and brittle hay could be heard by anyone in the barn. As he approached, the pile of hay shook again, but instead of an evil villain with a mustache and a gun, the small head of a child popped out.
The two made eye contact for what felt like ages. ‘The boy hiding in the hay pile was an odd one,’ Chuuya thought to himself.Seven year old Chuuya finds what he assumes to be a villain hiding in his barn, but it turned out to be one Dazai Osamu.
