Summary
He wasn’t ever possessive, that felt unbecoming. Unholy, according to the Bible. But he was human. He got jealous when people encroached on what was his, envious when others had what he didn’t. But he did what he always did. He acknowledged it, repented, got over it, and moved on. At least, that was how it had always worked for Dennis. Until Robby. Because whatever fiery, irrational thing that took hold of him whenever someone flirted with Robby was unlike anything he'd experienced before.
Or, a familiar face of the past visits PTMC, and Dennis finds himself utterly possessive and jealous for the first time in his life.

Summary
They had come to be a highlight of his day, these missives from his boss. They made him feel special, chosen to see Robby’s revival play out in real time, although it was possible Robby was texting others too, maybe Abbot or Dana or Noelle. It had gotten to the point that Whitaker, never the biggest fan of smartphones—of any flashy tech, really—would scramble to retrieve his device from whatever odd shelf or surface he’d forgotten it on the second he heard it buzz. When it was Robby, his expression would involuntarily screw into an amused little grin, scanning the text a few times before deciding how to respond. If it was anyone else, Santos asking about bills, his mother badgering him to visit, he would drop his phone unceremoniously between the couch cushions and ignore the message for hours.
But Robby hadn’t sent one in days—six days, to be exact.
On his way home from Canada, Robby goes radio silent and his favorite resident spirals. When he comes home two weeks before he was scheduled to and finds Whitaker standing half-naked in his kitchen, things get even more complicated. (Or, everyone in Dennis Whitaker's life is falling apart around him, and he doesn't know how to not help.)

Summary
Dennis occasionally uses Grindr to get a place to sleep for the night. He takes a chance on an older guy, who ends up being kind and wonderful and fantastic in bed. Dennis wishes it could be something more, wishes they could have something real-
And then he walks into the Pitt holding his Chief Attending, Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch's coffee mug in his hand.
A companion piece to my Grindr hookup fic, First, Do No Harm - told from Dennis's POV. Not necessary to read the original story, but it might be more fun to see both sides.

Summary
In Robby’s mind, it all starts innocently; innocently enough.
He would like to think about it as… concern from a mentor.
Nothing else.
It's very selfless that and commmendable, the fact that Robby creates a throw-away instagram account to keep tabs on his residents' lives while on sabbatical.
He doesn’t address to himself that the only person he follows with this account, is Dennis Whitaker.

And he’s very aware, in a way that he usually isn’t, of just how much younger Dennis is than him. Not that that matters, he’s an adult, and they love each other. No, the age gap isn’t the problem. It’s just, he’s suddenly become aware of how much more attractive Dennis is than him.

Summary
Turns out doing stitches on yourself is nothing like doing it on someone else. Who could have known that? Everyone, everyone could have known that. Including Dennis, if he’d thought about it for longer than three seconds. Which he had, and had concluded that he’d be able to do them himself.
He’s starting to reevaluate that conclusion.

Summary
The Pitt had always changed. People came, people went. That was the nature of teaching hospitals. Residents moved on. Attendings retired. Nurses transferred. Life continued. Yet lately it felt different, like things were happening too fast. Like every time Robby got attached to someone, the universe immediately started preparing to take them away. He should have been used to it by now, but it didn’t make the pain hurt any less...
...All he could think about was Dennis leaving. Not tomorrow, not next month, not even next year. But eventually. Inevitably. Residency would end, and then he'd go.
Or, Robby overhears Dennis talking about leaving The Pitt, and his abandonment issues rise to the surface.

Too long. He knows it’s been too long. Has tried to stand a few times, keeps ending up here. Back to the wall, choking on blooms. It hurts, it hurts so fucking bad. Hasn’t had full flowers come up before this. Has only had petals until now.

“I don’t need protecting,” Dennis muttered.
Robby looked over his shoulder at him. “Oh? Then why am I here?” At Dennis’s sour look, he smiled. “Sorry.”
“No, you’re not,” Dennis scoffed, hiding a smile as he looked down.

Summary
He looks familiar, but Dennis can’t place who he is. Average height, mid-thirties. Brown hair and eyes. Jeans and a sweatshirt, both hands shoved into the kangaroo pouch. Dennis swears he knows him. Can’t remember from where, though. But he’s seen him before, he knows he has. The man completely ignores Ahmad, who is still calling after him. Marches right past him, right up to the hub. Before any of them can ask him what he needs, he lashes out. Grabs Trinity around the chest with one arm. Pulls her back against him. Dana opens her mouth, no doubt to tell this guy off. Doesn’t get the chance. Because the other hand comes out of his pocket.
A gun.
He has a gun.

Summary
“You keep picking me up,” Robby says, voice hoarse, pulled from the back of his throat.
In all of Dennis’ life, he’s only bowed his head in the face of the Lord, in the face of something he believed greater than himself. Watching Robby do the same, shoulders hunched in, Magen David having slipped from beneath his shirt and swinging gently, cracks something in him. He never wants to hold that power over Robby.
Dennis pulls the other chair closer and sits instead. His hand twitches to tip Robby’s chin up but he stops himself, settling for letting their knees brush. “You’re worth holding on to.”

Summary
Dennis takes a deep breath in to calm himself, but as he breathes out, he confesses, “Trinity made a bet with Samira that I could get anyone in the bar to buy me a drink because I kind of have a knack for it, but Samira chose you, and now they’re watching us, and I’m so sorry.”
His boss blinks at him a couple of times, probably figuring out the least problematic way to fire him or berate him for being so damn unprofessional. He should’ve just said no to Trinity and Samira and killed the vibes for the night; he’d prefer that to whatever Robby is about to say. He can already see the anger bubbling up inside him that’s going to—
“I’ll buy you a drink.”
Dennis stares at him, unblinking. After a few seconds, he manages to ask, “What?”
“I’ll buy you a drink,” Robby repeats, then leans over to pat the bar stool next to him. “But you’re going to have to earn it.”

Or, Dennis tries every trick in the book to get Dr. Robby to buy him a drink and to stay.

Summary
“M’not a fucking kid!” Dennis spits.“Stop fucking calling me that.”
On the offensive, and unable to stop, Robby bites back: “Then stop fucking acting like one!”
Dennis slumps back into his chair, seceding silently, eyes glossing. Robby pinches the bridge of his nose in frustration.
“Jesus, I— Forget it. I can’t talk to you when you’re like this.” Robby tells him, pulling his jacket from the back of his chair. “Go home, delete our chat history. This never happened. Don’t ever tell a soul about this.”
Dennis laughs mirthlessly.
Robby is not amused. He zips up his jacket and leans down a little closer to the boy.
“I’m not fucking around, Whitaker. This stays between us. You need to take this to your grave.”
or:
After a particularly prolonged dry spell, Dennis Whitaker decides to redownload Grindr. He doesn't realize the charming, anonymous, older man he's matched with is his Senior Attending until after they've already gone through a week of digital foreplay. Everything's a lot easier when you can't put a face to a name — or a name to a profile — isn't it?

Summary
He slows in the middle, he thinks, eyes following the current beneath him. He can see Liberty Bridge in the distance, downriver. The jump doesn’t look that high from here, with the distance, but it must be. High enough, at least. Christopher Sinclair was missing one of his shoes when EMS brought him in. Maybe it’s still floating down there, somewhere, or sunk to the bottom with the glasses Dennis's mind has convinced him that Christopher Sinclair had.
There were nights that I thought about jumping off one of them.
It’s Robby’s voice, pulled from the back of Dennis’s brain, clearer than any of the things actually happening around him. A walk after a bad shift. A view of the river, of the bridges lit up. And Robby, back early from his sabbatical with no warning, confessing to Dennis the thoughts that scare him most.
Dennis blinks, and he’s across the bridge. He doesn’t look back.
OR
Dennis goes home to his family after a difficulty shift.
