Tom just wanted to exist. For a single day, or even a moment, he wanted some reminder of being alive that didn't require substances or others using him. Was that so hard to ask for?
Apparently yes, and now he is paying a ridiculous amount of money to get just that. ScentSpace & Co was a popular enough source used by plenty of lonely people. Tom used to frown on those who used services to rent companions, but the closer he got to his rut, the more he began to understand the appeal.
Just for an afternoon. Just four hours. If it didn't work, he would move on and try Iggys idea and simply drown himself in booze! Win win for everyone included!!
