“The stigma,” he carries on, unmoved by Kuwabara’s antics.

Summary
Loosely inspired by a tumblr post I saw re: a pair of guys pretending to be gay to scam the gym under the family discount package
“U-Umezawa-kun..!” Ippo squeaks, adopting a submissive little bow. Oh yeah, this guy’s definitely a fruit. “Do you…go to this gym..?” he chances with a gulp.
“Uhh, no?” Umezawa squints. “What the hell gave you that idea?”
“Oh..! I just…” and then Ippo whispers what sounds a lot like ‘you’re really strong’ before he goes on to ask, “so why are you here?”
“It’s a free country?! Jeez!” Umezawa runs a hand over his face, flustered.

A Winter virus had this year decimated the numbers at the Kamogawa Boxing Gym.
Only two boxers had managed so far to dodge it — (food hygiene certified) Aoki and (Teflon-coated bastard) Takamura.
Aoki should have known better when rounding the corner out of the showers and passing a naked, seated Takamura in the locker room — should have known better than to get within grabbing distance.

Instinctively my hand closed around the sword at my hip, my feet coming to an abrupt stop in the dirt. A Hoodlum - probably the sort of monster I should run from what with not having slept the past twenty hours, not to mention the sizeable axe he was wielding. I stood there, stock-still, but he made no move to hurl it at me.
Instead he noted where my gaze had come to rest, and said, “me eyes are up here, sunshine…”

“How long have you been awake?”
“I’m sure I dozed off at some point.”
Makunouchi is very talented but if there’s one thing he can’t do well, it’s lie. Even so, Miyata was inclined to believe him to some extent. He could’ve swore he passed out before he did. Miyata wasn’t a heavy sleeper either so he’s certain he would have noticed if something was amiss. Then again, maybe Ippo hadn’t dozed off. Maybe he’s a better actor than Miyata gave him credit for.
“Have you been up for a long time?” he asked.
“No, I’m fine! Really!!” Miyata sharpened his gaze.
“Don’t tell me what I want to hear. Tell me the truth.” Makunouchi sat up and let out a shaky exhale.
“I haven’t slept much at all. It’s been hours.”
