In his cell in Sugamo, Tokyo, Yonoi patiently awaits his execution. He places a hand on his heart, on the pocket where he used to keep something precious, a memento of someone special, which he has now entrusted to another. Many years ago, he also kept something similar there, belonging to someone else, though he left it long ago in a hibiscus field.
Those two people, no longer in this world, haunt his thoughts these days.
Yonoi suspects they will accompany him until his death, and perhaps beyond.

To his surprise, Jack doesn't need to prod further. Yonoi narrows his eyes, but hands him the pot cigarette, which in the sunlight can be seen to have indeed been physically altered: The symbol has been delicately covered with some kind of ink that replaces the sun figure with that of a five-pointed leaf. Quite creative.
"Speak," Yonoi says, stubbing out his own cigarette and drinking water from one of the canteens.
Jack watches his long, beautiful throat as he drinks, and even though he's just finished drinking, he suddenly feels thirsty.

Unable to resist the temptation, he looks up from the quotes he's highlighting at the kitchen table and, as expected, when he meets Celliers’ glare, he finds it tempered by the hint of a smirk he can’t quite fight.
"I was thinking that we could try something new"
Though his tone is laced with suggestion, Yonoi still refuses to entertain him.
"Has my Okayu become old news to you?" he asks, his voice tinged with the weariness of a tired mother.
"Oh, I'm not talking about food"
At this, he has to look up to meet Jack’s gaze, finding his eyes locked on him, his one working pupil dilated in a revealing way.

Especially now, as Jack kisses him in bed, a hand sliding up Yonoi’s thigh under his pajamas, fingers sliding through soft hairs and bronzed, warm skin, making goosebumps erupt on his skin.
It’s not even 5 a.m., but the sun is already clearly visible and casting morning light over their bodies. Jack is glad for it, since he’s woken up from a nightmare that he can’t remember and is in dire need of the other man’s embrace. As usual, Yonoi welcomes him, at any hour of the night or the day, seeming content to just lie under him and gratefully take whatever Jack gives him. Quite eager for it as well, from the noises he’s already making against his mouth.

“You’ve heard of Host Clubs, I assume?” Lawrence asked, leaving the question hanging without elaborating further, giving Yonoi room to understand.
“You’re suggesting I visit… Do you know what a Host Club is?!” Yonoi shot back, as Lawrence clearly had a very misguided conception of how such venues work. Yonoi may not be a big fan of nightlife, but he has read the reports that talk about how those businesses prey on the most vulnerable people to exploit them for their money, often leaving them bankrupt and in very precarious situations.
Lawrence took a sip of soda, seemingly lost in thought, and then simply replied “I know a place. Don’t ask me how… I heard about it from someone I work with.” Lawrence works as an interpreter and teacher of English and Japanese, and knows all kinds of places and all kinds of people, so this could really mean anything. However, something in his tone sounded amused, as if he was deliberately withholding information. “It’s a legitimate place,” he continued, “the things they told me are good. I’ll send you the information.”

Yonoi kept the torn red flower Celliers had bitten off, its petals limp in his calloused hands.
He can’t bring himself to let it go. He studies it as though it might burn him, as if it’s radioactive and will poison him if he touches it too long.
Then, without thinking, he presses it to his lips, imagining the dark pink flower to be Celliers’ lips instead. It tastes like he’d always imagined Celliers would: sweet, fleeting, and just out of reach.
