Summary
After Angel Dust finds him bleeding out on his bedroom floor and helps nurse him back to health, Alastor allows himself to have a tenuous friendship with the spider that everyone, including Alastor, find hard to believe will last. However, with surprisingly similar interests and passions, the two become closer over the following months, spending more and more time together, and developing their strange dynamic into one that may in fact last an afterlife-time. But one late-night confession over drinks and a deal-linked chess game put their already tumultuous friendship to the test as they learn about the intricate details of each other's lives and deaths, uncover aspects of themselves they never knew existed, and come to terms with parts of themselves they would have rather left dead and buried.

It's how he finds himself on the promenade again. He's burned through three cigarettes already, nursing a watered-down glass of whiskey from hours ago. He's trying to hope that it might calm his nerves enough to let him get some sleep in before he has to get up in the morning, but he finds it increasingly unlikely that he'd be so lucky. Angel doesn't know how long he's been out here. He only knows that his chest feels like it's constantly sinking into some bottomless pit, and that he is, in sudden cycles, struggling to breathe around the tightness in his throat that keeps coming and going. He's been fighting another crying fit since he walked out here.
It is also how he finds himself with unexpected company. Senses long attuned, Angel hears him before he ever sees him. He'd know those ominous whispers anywhere.

Ragatha hates to remember the way her hair was pulled back so tightly it put pressure on her skull. She hates remembering the thick, overstimulating hair gel that pushed all her baby hairs back. She hates remembering how close her mother put the curling iron to her skin, how she would squirm from the heat, and how her mother would yell at her, “If you keep squirming like that, the iron is going to touch your skin! Do you want to get burned?”
She hates remembering the ungodly amount of hairspray it took to get all those picture perfectly curled ringlets to stay still for the rest of the night.

Ragatha turns from the mirror abruptly, walking out of her room with a smile on her face, smoothing a hand through her hair as she does.
