Summary
Three years ago, Mike Wheeler was too afraid to speak, too afraid to feel the truth that was always buried deep within him. He let the one person who had always been his safe place, Will Byers, slip away, and in that silence it became too late.
Now, living a life drained of color and weighed down by regret, Mike follows a thread of hope to New York City, desperate to find the boy he let go. When he sees Will on the dance floor, confident and alive in a way Mike never imagined, he is stunned. Every smile, every movement reminds him of all the years he spent afraid and all the years he spent loving in silence.
Standing before him, hearts tremble and words falter. Mike is desperate for a life where fear does not rule him, where regret does not weigh him down, and where he can finally fight for the person he has loved all along.
For the first time in years, he is not willing to let that love slip away again.

But as Lonnie stays home longer and his behaviour escalates, the cracks begin to show, and Mike begins to wonder how he can help his friend out in what could be a very bad home situation.

Unfortunately, he is also very, very stubborn. He also refuses to take care of himself. Which means he regularly wears his binder for days.
When his boyfriend Mike, who's pretty tired of Will's bad self-care habits, finds out that Will's been binding for a week and refusing to do any self-care despite being on his period, he makes Will stop and let Mike take care of him. Major fluff ensues.

Will needed to figure out a way to get a pregnancy test, preferably without A) looking even more like the town pariah; B) alerting his mom, Hopper (AKA borderline step-dad), or any of his friends; or C) Mike, which would be really bad. Will couldn’t explain why it would be bad, he just knew, since MIke was already so protective over him (seriously what was his problem), got even more protective as the Upside-Down stuff escalated, and somehow managed to get more protective when they finally started dating. He shuddered, imagining Mike’s reaction to Will needing to buy something like this.

“I’m sorry,” Will says again, just to make sure Mike knows, and it comes out more sensical this time, his voice croaking and worn out.
He can feel the brush of Mike’s chin on the crown of his head when Mike shakes his head. “Don’t be,” he replies, and he sounds certain. There’s a beat of silence, before he slowly questions, “Feel better?”
Will swallows, and gives a slow nod. Mike doesn’t let go.
Will wakes up from a nightmare, and Mike keeps him close.

Summary
The door chimed open, and Will only had the chance to look up before he slammed into another chest. His thoughts went to the coffee first, feeling it spill between them. Will scrambled to keep hold of the pot, failing miserably as it rolled to the floor.
"Oh god."
Will could barely hear the other person, his ears ringing. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
"Hey, it's alright, I'm already wet. Should I tip you for the coffee?" The tone was light, humor drifting in it.
Will didn't laugh. He couldn't. It took barely a second for the air in his lungs to escape. He knew that voice, it had embedded into his mind like an unwanted tattoo. With parted lips, Will lifted his head.
The coffee burning between them went cold, and any comfort was yanked away without warning. He knew those eyes, even hardened and aged with a life Will wasn't a part of, they were the same.

Mike caps the cup and slides it across the pickup counter to Will, following it up with a wrapped straw and his wrapped lemon loaf immediately after. “Medium iced chai with oat milk and brown sugar syrup, and a lemon loaf for yellow flannel guy!”
Will grabs his straw, shooting a disapproving look at Mike as he carefully unwraps it. “Remind me to never wear this flannel in public again.” He grabs his drink, slipping his straw into it with steady hands.
“Nah, it looks nice on you. Don’t let me stop you, Just Will.” Mike is grinning so hard his face hurts. He’s more awake than he was previously, most of his exhaustion washing away throughout this interaction.
Will sighs, his cheeks going slightly red at Mike’s compliment, bringing his straw to his pink lips and taking a small sip. Mike watches Will’s gaze travel down to Mike’s chest, his eyes stopping on his name tag for only a second before they dip slightly lower. His lips quirk up into a small smile as he swallows his sip of chai. “I like your pin, by the way.”
