Lucy is just as antsy, if the rabbit-quick thumping of her bootheel against the floorboards is anything to go by. Cooper thinks about resting his palm over her knee in an attempt to calm her nerves. He also thinks about licking the bead of sweat that gathers on her temple and slowly slides its way down her neck. He does neither of course. Not the latter, because he’s pretty sure their audience of dead-eyed secretaries wouldn’t appreciate it, and not the former, because Lucy hasn’t seemed like she’s wanted to touch him with a ten foot pole since yesterday morning.

In a shell-struck old observatory on a hill overlooking the ruined remains of two civilizations, Lucy MacLean goes with her gut and decides to throw her lot in with the only person around offering her a feasible path forward. The Ghoul pretends he isn’t relieved to hear her footsteps trailing his own. Across the breadth of the country and the spans of time, events would begin to transpire to allow for their shared endeavor to be a success. A year and a half after their triumph over the Absolute in Baldur's Gate, Kellis and Rhydian, with their respective partners, reunite with old friends and look forward to a night of merrymaking at a grand ball thrown in their honor. However, with the daunting reappearance of old enemies as well, whether such a night will end on a high note remains to be seen.

This wretched thing in me must have sought out your scent. You’re obviously an-” Astarion waves his hand weakly towards Halsin’s large form. “You’re… forget it, this is ridiculous. I’m going. Forget you saw me like this.”

Summary
Astarion thought he'd escaped his past. Then he inherited it.
Summary: When Astarion learns that he has inherited both Cazador's title and his horror show of a palace, Astarion wants to ignore the whole mess in the worst way, but Gale insists they return to Baldur's Gate and do the paperwork to truly rid themselves of the last of Cazador's ugly legacy. However, the house is haunted and has its own agenda for Astarion. Between a bureaucracy more convoluted than the schemes of the Dead Three, corrupt Patriars who want Astarion to step into Cazador's old shoes, and a tax bill large enough to crush Waterdeep, Gale and Astarion learn that Cazador is almost as much trouble dead as he was alive.
Canon Caveats: Plausible as post-canon canon-compliant fic, with some magical realism and exceptions to strict 5e magic rules.

Sometimes Astarion had to remind himself that there was a difference between a master and a leader. He expected much of what Tar’eon did to be that of an iron fist, like a master talking to his slaves, especially with his intimidating build, but he was…gentle. Disgustingly so, in Astarion's opinion.

Astarion found himself often surprised by his heroic companion. He had one goal. To become the favoured companion of the group, to earn the Tieflings loyalty, to make Tar'eons strength his own. Yet Tar'eon isn't like the usual target of his manipulations. Despite his naivety, he does not seem gullible. There is something very wrong with their 'leader' to begin with. Astarion isn't sure if he wants to control it or eradicate the threat it posed. But can he really do either when Tar'eon himself seems so...unwaveringly kind?
That devil is getting into his head, while others get into Tar'eons. He doesn't appreciate not having the upperhand after years of being at the disadvantage. He will find a way to make him see.
He is the one he should be listening to. Astarion would make it so, no matter the means.
