Summary
Eight months after his apparent death, Lucanis was rescued from the Ossuary, and returned to House Dellamorte with new scars across his mind and body. However, with rumours abound concerning the First Talon and her abomination of an heir, a succession crisis brews within the Antivan Crows. When an attempt is made on Caterina's life, she seeks to clean up House Dellamorte's reputation, and reaches out to House de Riva in search of allies.
Together, she and Viago arrange a deal: an alliance between their houses, through marriage.
Trusting no one else with this task, Viago calls for the wayward Kallen de Riva, interrupting his search for the Dread Wolf. Forced to return home, Kallen must navigate the delicate world of Crow politics, all the while growing closer to the mysterious heir to the First Talon and his demonic passenger.

Summary
“Rook,” he says softly. He folds his arms alongside them, lifts one hand to stroke his thumb up the bridge of their nose. Their eyes have fallen closed again, but their ears perk, listening and leaning into his touch. They’re so tired, so defeated, yet they will persevere. Rook doesn’t know how to stop, and neither will he.
“My place is at your side,” he continues. “Right here. Not back in Treviso, ordering the Houses around, and certainly not making decisions that affect all Crows in Antiva. If that is what I have to choose – between you and First Talon – it will always be you.”
Ours. Ours. Always ours.
Yes. Finally. Ours, and nothing will tear Rook from either of them should they have the opportunity to.

Summary
Lucanis can make observations all he likes. He can claim that Rook’s standing as an Antivan Crow is the reason he feels more confident in their venture, but there’s a small, treacherous part of him that can’t help but be drawn in.
He knows not to trust, there’s no one he can trust apart from his family, but he’d found a surprising ally in the depths of the Ossuary, staging a daring rescue. Then as Lucanis’ world had come crashing down back at the Diamond, Rook had been there, steadfast in his sincerity. That kindness festers in Lucanis’ mind, still raw from a year of betrayal and torture. It doesn’t help that Spite picks at it like an open wound, pushing harder and harder for Lucanis to seek Rook out.
_____Lucanis' life has been thrown into disarray. All he has left is a contract for blighted gods, and a Crow with a specific kind of optimism.

Summary
Lucanis had never been so amused watching someone eat. She paused as she considered every bite, sometimes halving it, like she worried about taking too much though none of her bites could be considered anything but diminutive. She chewed thoroughly, vigorously, always with her fingers pressed to her lips to shield herself. She savored, letting out quiet little sounds of appreciation.
“Is that thyme?” she asked suddenly.
“It is.” He was surprised she could detect it. He had used the barest sprinkling, just enough to tame the bitterness of the onions.
A stirring in the back of his skull, movement from a phantom that had held himself so strangely patient that the absence of him was more jarring than his presence. Cook for her more.
A spark ignited in his chest, a need.

Summary
It’s too much—the burden of keeping everyone in his party alive, let alone happy. It’s too much—the pressure to stay cool and calm in his leadership position despite the fact that he’s as overwhelmed as the rest of them. The truth is, he’s winging this whole thing.
Rook needs a distraction, something stupid and needlessly convoluted to occupy his time when he’s not trying desperately to save the world.
Rook sets about teaching Manfred a secret handshake.

“Right, so. Is everyone ready?”
Her plan feels remarkably similar to tinkering with an artifact in Arlathan. It could either disable the barrier between them or level the entire Lighthouse.
But hey, if that happens, at least it’ll be over quickly. Maybe Emmrich is right and they’ll have an easier time getting together in death.
“Okay. This is Dock Town After Dark, part one.” Inhale. Here goes nothing. “It was a dark and stormy night in Minrathous. Detective Bishop and his partner Wolf were hot on the trail of the city’s most notorious blood mage…”
Or: Five times the companions try to get Rook and Lucanis together, and the one time it works.

Summary
The babe was ugly in the way of its weakness, yet as the child gripped onto Barnabas’s finger, something else pulled at him; called out to Odin. Something desperate, hungry, insatiable.
It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, so at last, Barnabas could not hide a poorly lit smile. To anyone else, to even loyal Cidolfus, it would have seemed like the dark king's heart had finally melted into something saccharine, but the truth of the matter was that Barnabas Tharmr had not one heart to spare.
He prayed the child might hold onto that same hunger, until it became unbearable—until it was time for him to feast upon the world Barnabas would help secure for him.

Summary
The sun was bright outside, the sky blue and endless with no clouds in sight. From where he stood, the property looked like a painting, with neat rows of grapevines and the lake’s edge a short way to his right. He was sure it had been an idyllic place to grow up, before the darkness within him had presented itself and warped this place into something tainted with blood.
On the way to Rivington, the party stops at Tav's mother's cottage for a night of rest. Unfortunately, there may be some darkness lurking in the seemingly peaceful homestead.

Summary
Like instinct, Astarion finds the vein in Filraen’s wrist that connects his fingers all the way to his heart. The moment his fangs sink into the Drow’s skin, blood pools into his mouth, and Astarion feels like a man drinking water for the first time in weeks.
He sucks and pulls, lapping at every drop with his tongue to make sure none goes to waste. Filraen’s blood tastes syrupy sweet tonight from the mead, thick and warm as it works its way down his throat. It’s addicting in more ways than one—the taste is divine, but something more primal pools in the lower parts of Astarion’s stomach. The kind that makes him want to bare his fangs at anyone who dares get too close to his Drow, that might try and take this away from him.
There’s a careful hand touching the base of his skull, pulling Astarion from his degenerating thoughts at the perfect moment. The long fingers slip up the back of his scalp and thread into his wavy hair like a soft caress. It’s comforting, has Astarion sighing wistfully into Filraen’s wrist.
