Alexa looks over her shoulder, craning her neck like she’s trying to look behind the fieldhouse. She turns back around and titters, covering her mouth with her hand. “You’re cute.”
It’s…weird. This is weird. Alexa’s acting like the popular girls in movies do, not like herself at all. It’s not like he knows Alexa particularly well, but he did share his Math class with her last year, and she had possessed a sort of grace and quiet intelligence that seems absent now. He thinks about it for a second and decides she’s performing. For who and for what purpose, he doesn’t know.
He pulls his backpack up and hugs it to his chest like there’s something more precious than old books, memorised worksheets, and a dusty lunchbox inside. “Um. Why…why did you want to see me?”

Derek sighs. He’s never been one to dance around a subject like this, and he’s not sure why he’s starting now. It can’t be that he’s scared. “She shouldn’t have said that,” he says finally. No more bullshit.
This, apparently, is all the dam needed to break. Spencer sets his mug back on the coffee table hard enough that a bit of the tea splashes over the side and onto one of Spencer’s hands. He doesn’t even seem to notice the pain, though, rising from his place on the couch and starting to pace around the room.
“I can’t believe she—” He pushes his hands through his hair. “Mourned the loss of six, what is that supposed to mean? She didn’t mourn anyone, she knew we were alive, she knew she’d get to see us again if we caught Doyle. We thought she was dead.” He scoffs. “Or, most of us thought she was dead.”
OR: spencer's friendships with jj and emily are falling apart. derek is just trying to hold them all together while silently wrestling with his own complicated feelings. it's fine. he's fine.

His brows furrow further, eyes narrowing as well like he's trying to suss out whether or not she's lying to him, and then drift over her shoulder, to some point behind her, and widen.
She frowns, turning around and trying to follow his gaze, but she can't figure out what he's looking at. There are still quite a lot of people milling about even at this late hour, though she supposes that's Vegas—or the outskirts of Vegas—for you, but nobody looks at all threatening. The most out-of-place person is a sharply-dressed man carrying a briefcase amongst all the people in going-out attire, but it's not like he's brandishing a weapon at them. "Reid, what—"
"Dad?"

Robb can’t help it – he laughs at that, and doesn’t even bother to keep it down.
“Maybe that’s part of it,” he admits, and then Theon excuses himself because he’s seeing a regular driving his way and Robb gets into the house and up the stairs and wondering if he could get away with asking the guy out for coffee without looking like he has the wrong intentions.
Whichever wrong intentions can someone have in this situation, but he’s plenty sure that if you’re doing sex work for a living and trying to get through university at the same time you probably aren’t interested in relationships, and Robb is definitely not ever going to pay someone he wants to sleep with for that – the last thing he’d want would be for Theon to think that it was headed there all along.
He’s never going to tell anyone he’s related to that he might be in the process of maybe falling for the hooker working on the corner next to his house.
