Duke slowed mid-step, saring at the cluster of kids marching across the yard, led by a small child with a megaphone, “Uh. Guys? Do my eyes deceive me, or is that Damian leading a protest?”
One of his friends squinted, “Is that an army of middle schoolers?”
At which point, Damian decided to start a chant with his megaphone, enthusiastically joined by his group of middle schoolers, “LIBERTY OR DEATH! LIBERTY OR DEATH!”
“Yeah,” Duke said, watching the group disappear out the gates, and wondering whether he should be texting a Code Red: Subsection 17D to the Batchat. Or maybe this situation was more of a Code Red: Subsection 31F? “That can’t be good.”

Damian prided himself on not being confused very often; it was unbecoming of the Heir of the Demon to misunderstand anything. Virgil double checked in the mirror before he left the dorm's bathroom. The doodles of his soulmates were hidden. Every mark covered up by his scarf and hoodie.
Part of him despised covering up to hide the marks. It was August and the heat was unforgiving. Virgil felt sweaty, but he couldn't take off any layers. He couldn't risk anyone seeing his marks. Even if he attended a different university than his soulmates, he refused to face the rejection of his peers.
Virgil used to love displaying his soulmarks. He remembered hours spent writing and doodling to his soulmates. They loved his art. Often, Red and Light Blue would draw their own in reply. Dark Blue would praise others' work.
His parents used to think two would disappear, but it never happened. The doctors his parents sent him to said it was uncommon occurrence. The kids he attended school with told him he was a freak and his soulmates got each other to make up for being stuck with him. After years of mistreatment, Virgil caved in and stopped writing to his soulmates.Series

Remus was no stranger to the night.
The blanket of deep blue that washed over the sky, the twinkle of a million stars winking in the distance. The cold air that came with the dark, despite the heat of the summer day that had only ended a few hours ago. The quiet, only broken by the distant sounds of the kingdom, the ocean, the forest, and all those that resided there.
Remus was also no stranger to the nightlife.
The rush of adrenaline that came with sneaking out of the castle, no snotty brother or uptight guards to follow him around. The scratchiness of the unfamiliarly poor clothes against his skin as he smudged dirt in his blond hair to disguise it. The beat of drums, the jingle of bells, the laughter and songs of the peasants as they danced, the large bonfire laying everything in the square with a flickering orange light, its heat and light making up for the cold and dark of the night until it didn’t feel like night at all.
