“It’s okay. I know a guy.” Ellie likes talking about Joel like he’s her mob lackey or something. Makes everything feel a little less looming and leering and lethal. She called Joel "a guy" when it came to getting an extra slice of pie or getting outside of Jackson's walls when she needed a day off of school, when she couldn’t fucking stomach it anymore. He told her to cut it out whenever she called him that. It was a bit. She liked all of their bits these days. “He’ll get you out too.”
“I’m Ellie," she volunteers though she doesn't want to. This woman isn’t an enemy. She’s as caged in as Ellie, worn down to the point that she barely had her wits left about her. There was a look in people’s eyes when they got that way, when they’d started giving up hope. Ellie would fucking know.
The woman shakes something loose from her bones, digs her teeth against her lip before she answers, “I’m Sarah.”
Ellie snorts. “Yeah,” she says with only the edges of humor clinging on. “He’ll definitely fucking save you.”

“Joel just got out of surgery,” Maria answers calmly, taking both of Ellie’s hands in hers. Ellie’s eyes snap back open. “Tommy is with him. You’ll be able to see him soon.” Ellie starts to sit again, to stand, to go to him, but Maria squeezes her hands in warning. “First, we need to make sure you’re okay. Next, we need to understand what happened out there, what Tommy and Dina can’t tell us. Then, I’ll take you to Joel.”

He stretched his fingers and brushed over the sleeping Omega's ribs. He didn’t linger on the warm skin, didn’t hover at the pale scars branded at Steve’s back, just touched cautious and tugged once. Quick. There and coaxing but then gone so if Steve woke up annoyed, Eddie could call it an accident.
“Hey.” Steve rolled over immediately and pulled Eddie right into a hug, one arm under the pillow and the other wrapped at Eddie’s waist, urging him in close. Their legs tangled, knees knocking and Steve fit Eddie tighter into his body, set his chin atop Eddie’s hair so the Omega was tucked into his throat. “Better?”
“St-Steve.” Overwhelmed. Too much. Perfect. Eddie set his nose at the bump of Steve's bonding spot where the Omega's scent was the strongest and Steve purred sweetly content, then folded in closer around Eddie like he never wanted to let go. “Yeah, that’s better.”
“Pretty Omega.” Almost inaudible, whispered into the late night quiet and not really meant to be heard. “M’ so glad you’re here…”

Summary
It all started with a few shots and some bad intentions. It was some late summer night at a house Steve didn’t recognize. There was music that thrummed in his bones. Steve ended up in bed, a little tipsy, with a girl named Sarah. She was in his biology class sophomore year, but they hadn't spoken until tonight. They didn't really have any intention of speaking again after tonight either. Until Steve is staring down at a little blue plus sign some weeks later, pale as a ghost.
“What are we gonna do?” He asks breathlessly.
“I can't get an abortion, but I… I don't want a kid, Steve. I think adoption is the only option,” Sarah tells him, fiery locks tucked back into a ponytail.
The thought of his kid out there, being raised by someone else, and not being part of it twists his stomach. Steve may be terrified, but that fear pushes him into the jungle of fatherhood not away from it.
“I’ll take it,” he announces.
