one of my favorite pieces of romance writing advice is to always ask "but why can't they get together right now?", because if your answer to that is weak, your audience will get annoyed. here it is, the best possible answer to "why can't they be together now?": because one of them is from the 18th century and they are working through a very big cultural gap and also he has PTSD from the french revolution. this series is so fun and soft.

It was irrational to think of him as a friend. It was wildly irrational, to mourn something that had never existed.
After hearing about the birth of the McFly family's second daughter, Doc Brown can only conclude that the worst has happened and that Marty has somehow been erased from time. He resigns himself to being alone, but when he crosses paths with the new McFly kid he can't help but make a friend.
