Summary
Zoey swam in the pool, her tail and scales shimmering under the morning sun. She waved to Mira, who had just stepped into the living room. Mira waved back with a small smile.
“She’s swimming again?” Mira asked Rumi, who was finishing breakfast.
“Yeah, you know her—she needs it,” Rumi laughed. She walked up to Mira and gently teased her with a swish of her tails. “And you know what I need.”
Mira nervously cleared her throat before growing bolder. She grabbed Rumi’s hips and planted a firm kiss on her lips. A loud gasp followed—not from Rumi, but from Zoey, who had changed her tail back to legs and was now dripping water onto the floor.
“Hey! It was my turn for the morning kiss!” Zoey protested.
“I didn’t want to bother you...” Rumi explained, still blushing.
“Well, you two figure it out,” Mira laughed, turning toward the fridge. “I’ll just go get my medicine.”
But Zoey and Rumi stopped her, stepping closer in unison.
“Choose,” they said, tilting their heads to expose their necks.
Mira’s cheeks flushed crimson.
Three half-monsters. Three hearts living together, hiding from the outside world, trying to live something like a normal life.

The woman’s eyes widened, and her hand reached out, not quite touching Rumi, but close. “Not that you’re not beautiful, because wow, you-” She stopped, a look of realisation crossed her face “-I mean, no, wait, no, you are beautiful, but I wasn’t hitting on you, I have a girlfriend-”
Rumi ignored her chest squeezing.
“-A stunning girlfriend, Mira. I mentioned her, right? My girlfriend Mira-” The woman stopped abruptly and lowered her head down into her arms. “Jeez, Zoey, stop rambling at the deaf woman.” It was muffled, but Rumi heard it.
Silenced by grief, Rumi’s world is transformed when she crosses paths with Mira and Zoey, who guide her toward a voice she thought was lost forever.

Mira with Zoey holding her arm in a death grip: Hey, my girlfriend saw you from across the record shop, and we really dig your vibe. Can we buy you a vinyl?

Celine tried to meet Mira’s gaze, but couldn’t force herself to. She instead averted her eyes, staring at the floor. She could feel the hunter’s stare boring right through her soul.
“Yes,” she finally whispered. “Rumi has patterns. But she is not a demon.”
“Then you’re going to explain everything, right now, or I walk. And when I tell Zoey, she will too. You know she will.”
Celine let the silence hang for just a moment before solemnly nodding in agreement. “If we’re going to have this conversation now, I’m going to need a drink first. And Zoey should be here."

That classic ‘I need you to help me pretend to my family that I’m in a relationship by bringing you home for the holidays’ fic, except all Celine wants to know is that Rumi has friends, and Rumi… hasn't really been concentrating on that aspect of her life. She wants to be promoted next year, she doesn't have time to make friends. Which is probably why the only people she can think to ask home for Christmas are the two women she had a threesome with six months ago.
Chaotic but established Zoey / Mira, workaholic lonely Rumi, supportive guardian angel Celine. A bit of silly semi-cracky Christmas fun. Will be coming at you like an advent calendar, with one scene a day through December until Christmas - but because chapters are based mostly on scenes they could be 500 words or 2000 words or anywhere in between - please expect zero consistency. I've seen so many stories completely villainizing Celine, which I'm totally interested in exploring don't get me wrong, but I also disagree that that's how she is in canon. She's a lot more complex than that, I think. That being said, this ALSO isn't based on canon. This is Celine doing a better job at being the parent Rumi needed.
Also note that the first chapter is a prologue and not really in the style that the rest of the fic will be written in, it's just like that for atmosphere!

"Wait..." Mira muttered, her eyes narrowed as she stared at the pictures.
"What is it? What did you find?" Zoey asked, peering over Mira's shoulder before she froze.
The picture was old, taken by paparazzi when Rumi was still young. It was deemed edited by the public, and people were angry at the company and paparazzi that took the picture.
But it showed Celine snarling at the camera as she shielded a nervous toddler Rumi behind her, clutching Celine's leg sleeve.
But what was evident were the claws that Celine had, along with her sharp teeth and amber eyes.
"Holy shit like mother like daughter apparently. Miyeong fucked a demon and it's Celine."
Someone choked.
Celine is a human, the Honmoon gave her the gift to mimic demons.
The little bundle in her arms is a half-demon.
There are... slight misunderstandings as Rumi grows up.
(Not that Celine ever corrects it, Rumi is just too cute!)

Mira's father is not a good father. His encouragements are double-edged, his kindness conditional. Mira is either his to shape into whatever he wants, or she is useless. Fatherhood is just business and children are just contracts to be refined.
Zoey's father is not a good father. Never listens, always silences. Zoey's never enough, too loud, too distracted, too Korean. She's more than can be handled, too quiet, too fixated, too American. Fatherhood feels like a contradiction.
Rumi's father is quite literally a demon from the darkest depths of hell. He promised his daughter would never live in shame. He'll make sure these two girls, these brave hunters, the light in Rumi's life, never will either.
