No barely restrained lust, no bedroom eyes, none of the usual signs Astarion got when one of his marks were falling for the act, falling for him. But now the road ahead was dappled in sunlight, and Halsin had asked to speak to him alone, and Astarion could see it.
The longing. The loneliness. The want to be close in any form. It was foreign in some ways, cripplingly familiar in others. Halsin wanted him now.
It was touching. Astarion would be touched. If only he didn't hate that.

After he’d Fallen, he’d fetched up against the bare earth on the basement level (no office space yet, but it wasn’t all boiling sulfur so the others were using words like “potential” and “good bones” before you could say “eternally damned”), hair singed, surrounded by the smell of burning feathers. He remembered realizing he couldn’t breathe- his body had still been shocked and still- before he even really knew what breathing was. He’d panicked, not knowing what this thing was that his body seemed to need so desperately, only knowing that he did need it, he needed it now, but he couldn’t get it, and that was unbearable.
This was like that. The angel’s scent was the turning of a blank page, a painting rendered in a colour palette Crawly had never seen. And now he could never not see it, never be able to unsee the shifting and wonderful complexity of it; his life would be divided into the time before he’d smelled it, and the time after. He gave a deep shudder as he breathed him in, knowing, knowing that he would need it now, he would crave it, and he couldn’t keep it. Would probably never smell it again.

"You need to stop bringing these babies home," he mutters in a sour tone he has never once used when the sun is up-- but now he's lowering himself into his rolling chair with a tender little sigh and pulling the bottom of his shirt up to wrap around the kitten. "Look at his feet, oh no, his little toes, he's perfect." Each word climbs higher in excitement, and Aizawa knows he has him.
"Actually it's a mutation more common in--"
"Shouta, please, look at his toes!"
He says it like Aizawa isn't the one that just introduced him to the kitten with the toes.

Summary
Rick has a nasty little habit of using the word “adventure” to mean almost anything. From a daring heist to selecting a new fucking doorstop, the only constant in the word “adventure” is that it means he wants Morty with him. But for what, exactly, that’s always the question.
In this specific case, it’s pretty transparently an excuse to utilize Morty as unpaid child labor, and Morty can complain about it ‘til he’s blue in the face; it won’t change squat. But hey, at least Rick gives him Morty Adventure Stamps now. That’s…kind of like getting paid. And besides, it’s not all bad. Rick has his ways of balancing things out. The moments of calm, sharing cold drinks…Rick’s arms wrapped around him…that’s pay enough.
…Right?
