She’d only been in her pajamas when she’d gotten into a screaming match with her father, and she hadn’t had time to do anything other than shove shoes onto her bare feet and grab her school backpack from the shelf by the door before she ran outside, the door slamming shut behind her.

Tail thrashing back and forth, making a rhythmic thwick thwack against his legs, or his briefcase, or both. Extra-sharp teeth bared wide, hissing with a confidence he didn't have in freshman year.
Riz's threat displays were hypnotizing. Fabian almost forgot the punchline of his own joke.
