From a boy so lucky to be alive they gave him a lofty title to match, to the supposed savior of humanity, to tawdry spoils of the very war he lost. It is a new kind of bravery Harry must hold onto these days, if he is to get through this with any of his sanity or self-respect left intact.
He won't just give up on living though, on hope. Somebody has to be here, after all, to take care of the girl, so if not for himself, then he'll at least do it for her. He can suffer any indignity thrown his way if it means that just one child born into this endless, bitter cycle of longing and loathing will grow up loved.
Sometimes, a ray of sunshine will break through the storm clouds even when it's always raining.
