Somehow, ineffably, he still finds his way to being a hero, even when his body fails him. Even if it's the last thing he does.
(where quirks are not always kind, and the author ruminates on the idea that trauma can be a list of smaller things that grow into something bigger and all the more willing to swallow someone whole. But it’ll be okay, eventually, because Izuku’s got Mirio by his side, and Mirio has got him).

Summary
The summer had been hot- beyond anything anyone had seen.
Popsicles melted faster than usual, roads nearly popped tires, and training had become more of a bitch than usual to the heroics students. But it was productive. Distracting.
Izuku never minded because at least with everything that had kept him busy, he was away from his anxiety and reminders of isolation and bad habits. But things are always complex, and well, consistent. Sick of the blaring heat, a villain with weather powers releases what Japan may consider one of the worst blizzards in history, all while in the month of June.
When all of those distractions are suddenly stripped, leaving Izuku in isolation with his class in the dorms for a “well deserved” break, those broken bad habits soon mold back into his hands. But compared to his early years, the people around him actually begin to pay attention.
Including a rather persistent blonde.

Summary
Quirkless, young adult Midoriya Izuku has a problem. Namely, he has a crush on his purple haired, tired-looking neighbor. They keep running into each other and the guy is actually pretty nice under that deadpan facade, has a sense of humor, doesn't seem to judge anyone for their quirk status, and is constantly spoiling any cat in the building that finds him. (He's also a shameless flirt.)
But Izuku has concerns. About the strange bruises and bloodied knuckles. About the weapons he's seen when stopping by for a cup of sugar. About the shady-looking figures he's accidentally spotted his neighbor meeting with. About the fact that right after the news reported a big crime bust, his neighbor came home beat all to hell and looking haunted.
Izuku has a problem. Namely, he has a crush on his neighbor, who he's pretty sure is secretly a villain. And he has no idea what to do with that.
(or: Adult!ShinZuku AU where Shinsou is an underground, undercover pro hero trying to find a lead on a case that may or may not involve the socially awkward guy living next door. Misunderstandings abound.)

There is a gun in his father's dresser drawer. Shouto isn't supposed to know about it, but he does anyways, and sometimes when his father isn't there he sneaks into his room and takes it out and holds it in both hands, feeling the weight of it. He pretends to shoot his father through the head, muzzle pointed at his pillow. And then he turns it on himself, watching his reflection in the mirror.
In the end, though, he always puts it back.
Suicide is a sin, after all.

Before Bakugo could protest, Kariage moved to the coat rack by the door and pulled down a jacket. It was a dark gray, a little worn but sturdy, and as Kariage handed it to him, Bakugo caught a whiff of something unmistakable—cigarette smoke. The scent clung to the fabric, heavy and persistent, a stark reminder of Kariage’s bad habit.
Bakugo hesitated for just a moment, but then he shrugged the jacket on. It was warm, and despite the smell, it was comforting in a way he couldn’t quite explain.

He had never told anyone about what had happened. Not his parents, not his teachers, not even Kariage. It wasn’t something he could talk about, wasn’t something he wanted to acknowledge. He had buried it, pushed it so far down that he had almost convinced himself it hadn’t happened.
But now, it was back. And it hurt just as much as it had all those years ago.
