Little did he know but these gods were real and loved his work, however, when Tubbo decides to mock one and not murder something he gets in big trouble.

“Never seen one of you who hasn’t tried to hunt me down for my feathers,” he points out.
A beat.
“I didn’t.” Tubbo says quietly, and apparently, that's all that needs to be said.

Summary
The fracture in his cover comes in the form of pain and itch in his back, pressing at each of his shoulder blades. Tubbo isn’t stupid and he knows what it’s likely to be.
After all, he had been the one listening to Tommy whine about his back aching that Saturday that the blond got his wings.
But Tubbo is also really good at denying things and ignoring them, so Tubbo pretends it’s just an ache in his back. Besides, with the way he’d been raised to think about hybrids, he doesn’t know how the hell that gene would’ve gotten into his family.
Still, when the ache doesn’t go away and starts to really hurt, he decides, I am going home.
Before he can do something stupid, like say “I think I am growing wings and I don’t want to do it alone would it be too much to ask for you to come home with me and keep me company”, he turns tail and flees.
Tubbo gets home.
When he wakes up, he grows a pair of wings.

Yes, it sounds terrible when phrased that way, and really it's only a family of two— but it's true. Tubbo is the criminal of the family, which means that several things go wrong very quickly when Ranboo has a go at it. It's only because Tubbo's sick, so it's fine, but— but then they switch places, and Ranboo gets sick instead.
God, this all could have been avoided if Tubbo just sneezed into his elbow like Ranboo's always telling him to.

Most of the gods have long gone dormant and left humanity alone, only coming back when something is required of them. Like a soul needing to be reaped, or someone giving a hefty offering. But they no longer answer the prayers of the people. To the point where the people have stopped believing in the existence of said gods, telling people they were nothing but myth.
A local historian under the guidance of a retired warrior- who was said to once serve a goddess- is set on proving their existence for the populace; having written many papers and books, nothing is going to prove him wrong otherwise.
It doesn’t take long before his determination attracts the attention of a curious being.
