"Enough," Stiles cuts in, voice cracking on the tail end. "Dad – daddy, please.”
Both Derek and his dad turn toward him in unison, mirroring each other with a, “Yes?” – one surprised and paternal, the other smugly amused.
Fuck.
This is it. His final moment. He’s going to die of mortification, right here, right now. Just bury him between the frozen cheesy pizzas and the off-brand chicken nuggets.
Carve it on his fucking tombstone: Here lies Stiles Stilinski. Killed by his own goddamn mouth.
Or: One fucking glance. That's all it took. A bored flick of those impossibly green eyes and a gruff, “You’re blocking the keg, kid.”
Gone. Absolutely, irreversibly fucking gone. Like, one moment Stiles was a person; the next, he was Derek Hale's latest conquest. It was kind of great – well, at least until Derek totally flipped the table and suddenly it definitely wasn't all that awesome anymore.

Summary
Derek Hale doesn’t do routines, but somehow the loud-mouthed, tattooed menace behind the counter at Poké Me Gently quickly becomes a habit he can’t quite shake.
Stiles is nothing but trouble wrapped in sarcasm and sharp-tongued lewdness, all clever wit and easy charm, and Derek can’t help but let him in; into his apartment, his bed, and into his guarded, lonesome life. In the end, it’s not the potential for heartbreak that haunts him at night, no. It's the certainty that, even after ruin, he’ll still want Stiles with a hunger that outlives any betrayal.
Sometimes Derek wonders if his entire bloodline was forged specifically to keep therapists employed for the next hundred years.
Maybe happiness decided to skip him on purpose? Like it looked at the Hale family tree and said: nah, way too fucking flammable.
It would be just his goddamn luck.
Or: Trust is a blade, and Derek keeps handing it to people who smile when they twist it. He doesn’t know if Stiles will end up being one of those people or not, but it wouldn’t exactly surprise him.

He understands, of course he does, Scott's life has been completely turned head over heels, and considering that's kind of mostly Stiles's fault, it's not like he can blame Scott for it. So he needs the summer to get his shit together - Stiles has stuff to do too, that's fine.

This story is my head-canon for all the bits we got for that fuzzy timeline in Scott and Stiles lives when Claudia was dead and the Sheriff was drinking and a guy who I really thought would be a dead-beat abusive spouse turned out to be a FBI agent. I'm probably getting jossed as soon as Season 3b hit the air, but in the meantime, enjoy!
