James learns two things the moment Regulus Black stumbles into his life once again. One, that he has absolutely no choice but to fall in love with the man, and two, that he’s fucked. Not because loving Regulus would be hard, he’s sort of always done it and it comes naturally to him, but because of Regulus’ toxic ex, who has messed him up and planted fake ideals and expectations in his head. He promises himself that he will do his absolute best to show Regulus what being loved actually feels like, which comes with a whole lot of learning.
Because in James’ eyes, to be loved is to be known.

“Remus?” Sirius began, cocking his head to the side. His mind was suddenly racing, filled with moments akin to this.
Nights when it was far too hot for any of them to wear shirts, so James, Peter, and Sirius would sleep shirtless, Remus insisting that it wasn’t that hot, and they were all dramatic before crawling into bed, shirt firmly in place.
When they went swimming in the lake and Remus refused to take his shirt off because, as he put it, “I’d rather not freeze my limbs off.”
When Sirius would drag him into a closet somewhere and reach under his shirt to skim his fingers along firm skin, and Remus would pull back, saying they had somewhere to be.
When they were alone in the dorm and Sirius inevitably jumped Remus, causing an imprompto makeout session, which usually ended when Sirius tried to take Remus’ shirt off.
“Why don’t you let me see you shirtless?” he quizzed

regulus can look back, and tell himself, well, sure, even his mum shouldn’t be doing those things to him, but he hadn’t told sirius because at some level, sirius already knew how bad walburga was. he didn’t need more weight on his shoulders, and there would’ve been nothing they could’ve done anyways.
in reality, regulus would have told him anyways. it was the shame that stopped him.
at the hands of walburga black, physical abuse wasn’t the only thing regulus suffered from. it’s years before anyone realizes.

Scorpius is staring back at him, in wait of something new to learn, a beautiful and intelligent child. He has Draco's mind. He has Draco's eyes and nose and mouth and hair. He is his. All his. All he has of Michael are his wild curls and the green of his eyes, and sometimes he looks into them and imagines that they aren't Michael's, but someone else's.
Draco leans his head closer, biting the quiver out of his lips before he breathes a laden and shuddering exhale, and he whispers, "You are my star in a big black sky."
