The place is warm and inviting, even if the shopkeeper is a little robotic. While browsing the shelves, Dean finds surreal books like histories where the Titanic never sank and JFK was never assassinated.
And then he finds his shelf: rows of books bearing his name. Some are pasts he never lived. Others are futures he never could have dreamed. All of them are impossible lives. The shopkeeper tells him the only way to leave is to choose one. When Dean refuses, the bookstore turns against him, plunging him into a nightmare with only one way out: choose.
What does free will mean in a place like this? And what happens to those who refuse to choose?

Loved this fic. It’s about how you move past horror and trauma. Also strong mirrors and parallels.
I feel like this fic was about generational trauma at its core.

Summary
In 1942, the City of New York banned pinball games.
For newly returned WWII veteran (and avid pinball player) Castiel Novak, it's just one more thing that's been taken from him. He finds a place of refuge at the Village Laundromat, an establishment run by best friends Charlie Bradbury and Dean Winchester. The illegal pinball arcade in the laundromat's back room soon becomes a second home for Castiel.
Over the ensuing decades, it also becomes the place where Castiel falls in love, grows old, and witnesses changes he never even dared to imagine.

On the surface yes this is a romance with Dean and Castiel and pinball being banned in NYC.
But that’s only the surface level. Beneath it are all the moments that define the generation. The history we haven’t lost. The progress that at times feels tenuous. And just how much things can change in a single generation.
Lovely, lovely story.
