Summary
Zuko had never excelled at anything. Azula was a prodigy. Uncle always knew what to say. And Father... Father was strong, iron-like. But Zuko had only ever been good at surviving. Putting one foot in front of the other in a grim show of stubborn determination, gritting his teeth and bearing it. Survival was all he had ever been taught. He knew how to do it. So when he was kidnapped by the Southern Water Tribe, he expected to fight as he always had. He didn’t expect to be taught instead how to live.
In a warring land, the Water Tribe forgave the enemy in an act of defiance. For this, he was torn from them, and this time, his wounds won't heal so easily.
Forced back into nothing but survival, the last person Zuko expected to see was Hakoda's son. Hakoda was a promise of safety. The relentless blue of Sokka’s eyes was a promise of happiness. Zuko could have both if he just reached out his hands, but he found them clutching into fists. After all, he’d been burned one too many times.
But hey, at least between Hakoda and Sokka, Zuko could appreciate the family resemblance of pure, asinine stubbornness.

Sokka’s head snapped over to Zuko, who looked just as shocked as Sokka felt. His cheeks were cherry-red and he had a hand clapped over his mouth. “Did you just laugh?” Sokka asked. Just to make sure his ears still worked.
Zuko spluttered, his cheeks darkening. “What—no! Why would I ever—I mean, what is laughing?” And then, “Your jokes suck anyway!”
OR
Sokka accidentally makes Zuko laugh during one of their fights. He takes it upon himself to continue making Zuko laugh in their future encounters, just as a "distraction tactic."

Letting out a slow breath, the banished prince lowered his gaze to the floor again and tried to focus on sharpening his swords. After dinner, Katara had thought that it would be a good idea to practice her waterbending under the moonlight. No problem there, Zuko himself loved to practice his firebending in the sunlight. The issue was that she decided to practice right next to him.
Or,
Zuko gets hurt and thinks he deserves it as punishment. Sokka's there to tell him otherwise.

Summary
After years of his Uncle begging, Zuko finally agreed to start attending group therapy sessions. The night he got his scar has crept into his dreams and he just wants to sleep through the night again. All he expected to get out of the program is the resolvement of the trauma he experienced five years ago and coping mechanisms for all the anxiety that followed. Friends were at the very bottom of his list of things he wanted to find in therapy. But life is a funny thing. You never know how it’s going to turn out.
Modern American High School AU where the gAang meets at group therapy and slowly become friends/build their own little family through a series of adventures. Follows a lot of themes/events from the animated series, but adapts them to our world. It’s like a medium-burn platonic story with a bit of magical realism.

Richie had been eager to take his new car for drives out past Derry city limits. Out where they could blare music as loudly as the stereo would allow, screaming lyrics, holding hands and making out. He wanted to drive Eddie out where no one could see them, lay him out in his backseat and spend the evening just like that.
/Or: Richie gets a car for his sweet sixteenth birthday. This means big things for Richie, Eddie and the other Losers; things like car races, jam sessions, drive-in movies, driving lessons and late night trips to get fast food.

Richie has nothing on except a towel tied loosely around his waist. And he has a really good body. Droplets of water fall to the tile floor from the mop of damp, dark curls on his head. He has approximately one million freckles scattered all over his pale skin like constellations. His mouth is slightly open, eyebrows raised in surprise. Eddie’s eyes flicker from his toned stomach to his sharp cheekbones and dark eyes. I’m gonna pass out, Eddie thinks, I’m gonna pass out and this ridiculously attractive asshole will have to witness it.“Oh. Hi.” Eddie clears his throat and hopes Richie can’t see his blushing cheeks through his slight sunburn. “I’m, um, Eddie. Eddie Kaspbrak? I’m supposed to be writing an article about you for the school newspaper?”
