Summary

He's done a great job of keeping that information to himself, but when Rozanov calls him and invites him to Montreal to help coach at the hockey camp he's starting with Hollander, Marlow can't help but think the two things are connected. Is he finally going to get to meet the woman who got Ilya Rozanov to join the worst team in the league?
Marlow has proven he can keep a secret. He's earned the right to meet "Jane" and finally know why so much of Ilya's life as been secretive. But what's going on might be a little bit too much for Marlow to process, so Ilya has a plan: leave a trail of breadcrumbs that leads right to the answer and let Marlow figure it out on his own. After all, he was able to piece together that Ilya was leaving Boston without any help, so how hard could it be to get him to put together Jane's real identity?

But once he realizes that, he immediately knows that he can't come out. It would ruin his legacy.
He's pretty sure that's why he doesn't want to come out. No other reason. Right?
He is sure that's all it is until Ilya asks him if he would be safe if he came out. And he can't answer.

If Montreal wants to get rid of a generational player, he's not about to stop them, especially if it means he can get a little closer to joy.

They’re only standing like that for about a minute, if even, when Hollander decides to make conversation, “So, uh, are your parents here with you?”
Ilya just nods. His mom is here with him, of course she is. She wouldn’t want to be anywhere else and Ilya doesn’t think he appreciates her enough for that, but he tries. As best as he can, at least.
“That’s nice, mine are too,” Hollander says quietly with a smile and they fall back into that earlier silence, listening just to those same sounds.
Skates on ice.
Sticks hitting pucks.
Each other’s breathing.
After a few minutes, Hollander awkwardly clears his throat and takes a step back, “Anyway, uh, I should probably go. My parents, they’re waiting on me, but um…” He trails off and Ilya notices the hesitation in his voice before he takes his hand out of his pocket and holds it out to Ilya again, smiling, “good luck in the tournament.”

Summary
Ilya rounded the desk, and his heart didn’t stutter but simply stopped. For an endless second everything stilled around him. Shane had found them, his letters and his journals. And the world turned sideways slowly slipping away from Ilya’s grasp. Like someone had taken away the solid ground underneath his feet, leaving him falling indefinitely. His entire focus narrowed on the pages Shane was clasping in his hands and the shoe carton next to him.
He had always promised himself that one day he would show Shane, he would tell him about all of it. But he had never wanted it to happen like this. For Shane to just stumble across the pages that carried his darkest thoughts and simple truths of his life. Never wanted him to read those alone or ever. Because Ilya wasn’t sure he was strong enough to revisit all the open wounds he had spilled on those pages.

Yesterday while scrolling Twitter, I found a post from @R0ZAN0V saying: “one time when ilya pisses shane off, he gives an interview while wearing the glasses, knowing that ilya is watching him on the tv from home.” I saw that tweet, got to work, and started writing this fic.
OR
ilya thousands of miles away from home, pisses Shane off over something silly. Shane retaliates by wearing those special glasses for his interview that night, knowing Ilya's watching him where he is, going absolutely feral.
So liya did what any rational, sleep-deprived, jealousy-fueled man would do, seeing his fiancé thirsted over across social media. He made fake accounts.
