He then travels to Mexico and finds himself in paradise, having the time of his life and it couldn't seem more perfect until... He said something he shouldn’t have, didn’t give any thought to how it could be taken, and he knew it the moment it left his lips. Some nights he wants to barge inside Ghost’s room and beg him to just end it all, to smother Soap's misery gone. Soap can’t recall how he went through life before Ghost, but he can’t go on after him.

Innocently getting breakfast one unassuming morning, Soap is blindsided by his stoic lieutenant getting in his personal space, practically clinging to him. Soap plays it off as a fluke, until Ghost keeps pestering him. Sure, it's far out of character, but Soap thinks he's just reading into things too much.
When he finds out that Ghost is going into heat, Soap gets to witness just how sweet Ghost really is.
