With a playful grin, Buck spoke into the phone as the usual hostess greeted him, “Hi! I’d like to place an order for delivery. It’s for me and my husband.”
Tommy, who was priming up the DVD player, froze in shock and turned to stare at him in shock.
“Yes, under the name Buckley. I would like to order a Pasta e Fagioli with extra red pepper. And my husband would like a Spaghetti alla Nerano with extra provolone. Dessert? Wait, let me ask him. Hey, babe,” Buck turned with a smile, “do you want tiramisu or your usual spumoni? You know what, we'll get the spumoni, with extra chopped cherry.” He said back to the phone.
Tommy’s breath hitched again, and before he could stop himself, he blurted out, “Wait, wait! Did you seriously call me ‘husband’?”
Buck’s smile just grew wider, especially as Tommy lurched forward and snatched the phone from his hand and addressed the restaurant with a bright, almost breathless energy, “Uh, hello! The husband here! Can we get both the tiramisu and the spumoni, please? And my husband,” his voice was literally trembling with emotion, “would like a slice of your raspberry cheesecake.”
