“Yeah I realized that, I am a fuckin' doctor. Student doctor. Whatever.” he replies, turning to squint at the man sitting next to him. “Look, can you just get Dr. Robby? He’ll tell you I'm fine, I gotta get back to work, I got… patients and shit.”
The man looks at someone behind him, some expression he can’t quite figure out. He starts to say something else, and—oh shit he’s gonna throw up fuck—he tries to lean away and not vomit all over anyone else. He doesn't quite make it.
“Shit,” yeah, he definitely ruined that guy’s shoes. Whoops. “Sorry.”

He kisses the torn lobe of Essek’s ear where Jester has healed it closed; he’ll need to pierce it again sometime if he wants to replace the earring. Caleb thinks this, and moves to kiss his neck again. “But I am going to find it hard to sleep if I don't feel you next to me tonight.”In broad daylight, Essek is attacked. Caleb knew that some humans were able to intentionally wiggle their ears. Apparently it was an old, vestigial muscle that only some humans could purposefully flex, which would rotate their ear in a kind of silly-looking wiggle, usually done for joke effects. But elves? Though Essek would be loathe to admit it, they seemed to have an instinctual sort of twitch to them, the muscle not only active and connected, but sensitive. Emotionally activated, Essek’s ears would sometimes pin closer to his head, or wiggle with the slightest tension when he was excited.
Or shake with the slightest sort of quiver when aroused.

Charlie’s trying not to notice how his breath catches when the doc gets too close. He’s also trying not to notice how the bodies keep piling up, unsolved. Neither effort is going particularly well.

Caleb noticed it as he left the cottage, once he consciously felt for the sensation. Or rather, a lack thereof. Typically, magic rushes around him like the wind itself, or an ambient scent, or music. It appeals to a different and entirely unnamable sense though, of course. He can feel it, touch it, and manipulate it. It is so constant that it becomes subconscious and beyond notice.
“You can feel it, Essek. It is gone.”Peace is a precious thing, and a fragile thing too. When the unexpected finally strikes Essek's delicate new life, he and Caleb are left adrift and alone and very, very, vulnerable. What are two wizards without magic to do?
