Ray rolled his eyes, letting another cough escape. "That's right. I think his name is the Holy Spirit."
Giulio chuckled. He was so cute when he was ailing. "Either way. I'm glad he's gone. The thing is, he'll take my brother with him."
"Let them be." Ray shrugged. "Some would say the same thing about us."

“Giulio will be announced as a prefect of the newly established Dicastery for Reforms.” Aldo said.
“No,” Thomas grabbed the railing. “That’s insane.”
That idea of the dicastery wasn’t new. The late Holy Father came with it, but even he deemed it too much. Too radical. It would cause too much backlash and problems.
Thomas had to ask. To be sure he understood it, “We’re talking about an in-depth investigation of corruption through the whole church, right?”*

And now Ray sat on the edge of their bed with his hands tied neatly behind his back, joined at the wrists, the picture of submission save the relative freedom of the rest of his body. Really, he could walk away if he wanted to, but Giulio trusted him to be a good boy, and he wasn’t keen on betraying that trust.
“Alright,” he heard Giulio say, snapping him back to reality. “I think I’m ready.”

Benítez tilts his head a fraction closer, conspiratorial. “It’s a pity our devices have been confiscated for the time that we’re sequestered here. I would’ve suggested sneaking off to exchange more music recommendations since you’ve demonstrated taste.”
“Dally any longer, and I fear that neither of us will be in anyone’s good graces,” Thomas replies as Ray sweeps past them. “But I would’ve…” He glances furtively at Benítez; for an instant, it’s the thrill of misbehaving at seminary again. “I would’ve liked that.”
“There’s a computer in the office.”
“We’d have to cross Sister Agnes.”
“Ah. Never mind that idea, then.”
Oh, the things I would’ve liked had we been young men together, Thomas thinks wistfully as they approach the dining room. I would’ve liked you.
