He accepted the call as he strode out of the hotel room, ignoring Hayden's confused questions as he closed the door. "Hello, Ilya? What's going on? Is something wrong?" He was met with the sound of loud, pounding music and faint background conversation. Why wasn't Ilya saying anything? "Ilya? Where are you? What's happening?"
His heart started to beat faster, palms getting sweaty. He was imagining the worst now. What if Ilya was hurt? What if he had been mugged? It sounded like he was at a club, what if someone had done something to him.
"Ilya, you're worrying me. Tell me where you are and I'll come get you," he said as he walked back inside the room, grabbing his jacket and wallet.
"Jane?" Not-Ilya said over the phone, the distinctly female voice making Shane stop in his footsteps. "Ya znala, chto Dzheyn — muzhchina." (I knew Jane was a man.)
or, Shane gets a call from Svetlana telling him Ilya is very, very drunk. He races to take care of him.

As Troy followed Coach Wiebe out of the emergency room, he glanced back at Ilya and paused. Fuck it, so what if he gets mad at me, he shouldn’t have to wake up all alone in a hospital bed when there is someone out there who would care. He quickly moved back towards the bed and leaned in close. “In New York, I was right, yes?”

Exhaustion had never hit Ilya quite like this before. He always expected a mid-season slump; anyone would after months of grueling physical activity. But these last few years in Ottawa—they've drained Ilya.
Sure, they've started winning more. They aren't exactly scrapping the bottom of the barrel anymore, but playoff hopes were still a ways away. And, for Stanley Cup champion Ilya Rozanov who ate, slept, and breathed winning, it sort of felt like his soul was being slowly sucked out of his body.
It was all worth it to be closer to Shane. Of course it was. It was so, so worth it to see him and hold him more than four times during the season and in stolen moments during the summer that Ilya clung to like a lifeline. He would do it all over again and again and again, just to see Shane—his Shane—smile.
But he wishes it wasn't so fucking exhausting.
or; ilya is very tired after a long roadie and after a fight with dallas kent on the ice, he accidentally tells a room full of reporters that all he wants to do is go take a very long nap with his boyfriend.

The Terrible Two’s were at it again. It seems like they will physically combust and evaporate if they don’t do something silly or dumb every few minutes.
Ottawa maxed out their cap space with Shane and Ilya, so there were no rookies this season. Respectively as the youngest players on the team, and most destructive they earned the nickname “The Terrible Two’s.” Because sometimes it was hard to believe they were really 21 years old. And they acted like toddlers.

Hayden Pike was standing there. Next to him, sitting on a chair, was a very pregnant woman whom Ilya assumed was his wife. In another chair also sat an asian, elegant looking woman that Ilya recognised as Shane’s mother, and next to her was standing a middle aged white man that had to be Shane’s father.

A second, then a blur. Ilya knocking over one of the kitchen island stools to engulf Shane. His shaking frame holding Shane so tight, Shane felt himself shaking back. He could only hold on back, just as tightly.
“Please.” Came the strangled voice by his left ear. “Please, tell me.”
And who was Shane to ever deny a wish of Ilya Rozanov.
“I’m signing to Ottawa. Tomorrow. If you would want to come with.”
And then Ilya was shoving him back, holding him close to his face. “Of course. I drive. Of course I come.”

Shane, fed up with Montreal, signs to Ottawa before their relationship is revealed. While he doesn't plan on keeping that a secret for long, he asks Ilya to let him get to know the team first, before they come out. To maybe have a normal season.
