The two guys had been working for more than three hours but it didn’t stop Arthur from sounding like he was close to having his one brain cell dry out from all the dusty papers. He always dreaded the more mundane parts of the fire soldier job — but he didn’t mind it as much as he usually did when he was working alongside Maki, Tamaki or even the Lieutenant.
No, there was one thing that kept him alive and well. It was the only other person in the room, who unlike Arthur, was actually trying his damn best to get the last few pages of his second pile of documents done for the day.
When Shinra didn’t pay attention to Arthur, he’d sneak in a stare or two before going back to his ghostly face whenever Shinra would look up. It was a game that Arthur had been playing for a good while now — stealing a couple of views, blessings in Arthur’s head. As far as he knew, Shinra was a gift from Sol itself, and he was all his to claim — that is whenever Arthur would come up with the plan on how to do it."
