Was… was Steve Rogers, Captain of the Massachusetts Rugby Team, winner of ten US Cups, the literal epitome of a silver fox, actually flirting with him?
“Sweetheart?” Steve continued and Bucky released a shaky breath. Steve’s smile grew and his eyes flicked to Bucky’s lips. “You like that, huh?” He stood in Bucky’s space, biting his lip and crowding even closer. “Like being called sweet things?”Bucky’s first season with the New York Rugby Club has come to an end, and he thought the adventure was over until next season.
That was, at least, before Steve Rogers - Bucky’s walking wet dream - came strolling into the locker room, giving him all sorts of mixed signals. -

Bucky wasn't a kind man, but he wouldn't go out of his way to be cruel. He was a lonely man, but he wouldn't go out of his way to fill the void. He was a man with specific needs, but he wouldn't go out of his way to get them fulfilled. No, he wasn't a man known to go out of his way to do much of anything nowadays, not when he'd spent most of his life thus far pushing himself past his limits for others. Now that he was free he'd live his life simple. And that's what his life was now. Simple.
Steve knew James Buchanan Barnes, formally and formerly known to the world as The Winter Soldier: the world's greatest assassin and many people's greatest threat. After killing his handlers he officially resigned and the people with enough firepower to kill him left him alone out of fear. But it was Steve's job to keep him in line and to check up on him from time to time. Make sure he wasn't up to something nefarious, his retirement wasn't a big hoax, and he was out of everyone's hair for good.
Really, Bucky let him do his job in peace, because he wasn't going to go out of his way to get rid of him. And if he left him be because he liked his pretty face, well, that was no one's business but his own.

Steve obviously enjoys the sessions themselves, finds them relaxing. That’s the best possible starting point, so Tony capitalizes on it, gradually escalating by asking Steve about each specific idea he has for their hypnosis routine. What Steve doesn’t realize is that he’s implicitly planting the idea in Steve’s head that Tony would only do things to him when he’s under if he has consent. Steve responds beautifully, subconsciously trusting Tony, his body relaxing. The attention to detail allows Steve to let go of his own focus.
