The tone in Bucky’s voice makes Steve open his bleary eyes, and he smiles up into a face he knows far better than his own and grins. “I feel grounded. Whole. Home.”
The returning grin makes his heart soar, and Bucky leans forward to kiss him, the fresh mint on his tongue means he’s already brushed his teeth, and Steve knows he spaced out after his orgasm to have missed Bucky leaving the bed.
“Love you,” he whispers as Bucky moves back to snuggle down next to him, to pull Steve in tight, curling around his back—just the way Steve likes to be held.
“‘Til the end of the line, right?”
“And beyond,” Steve replies softly and starts to fall into a safe, deep sleep, wrapped up in Bucky’s arms, warm and content, knowing that no matter what happens next—even an alien war, Thanos, whatever—nothing could keep them apart.
