“I hated him,” Natsuo breathes, and he can’t look at Aizawa. He can’t decide if the admission is relieving or if his chest is going to collapse in on itself. “Don’t get me wrong, I was like eight, and all I could think about was that Endeavour couldn’t take his eyes off Sho if he wanted to, and he wouldn’t look at me even if I cussed him out to his face. But I was just a kid. I didn’t know any better. Right?”
As soon as the quiet and unintentionally desperate words leave his mouth, there’s a roaring in his head, a sudden and visceral need for someone to look him in the face and confirm, ‘It’s okay. You were just a kid in a shitty situation and needed someone to blame because you hadn’t come to terms with the fact that your father is a monster. It wasn’t your fault. It’s not often that Shouto initiates conversation and Natsuo learned not to take it to heart. That’s simply how Shouto is. He knows his little brother cares because every now and again, he’ll receive a cute picture of a cat or some outdated meme followed by a question mark. Something that lets Natsuo know that Shouto is thinking of him.
So, when his phone chirps with a text from his brother, he looks up so fast it makes him dizzy. It’s likely another picture but he has to be sure. He’d spent enough time in his life not being there, a quick peek won’t kill him.
Shouto: Hey. I have a question.
Shouto: Several, actually.

“You should hear my hag of a mom,” Katsuki smirked, voice low and amused. “Compared to that bitch, this is fucking nothing.” He turned with a ready grin to shoot a look at Kirishima, but to his surprise, he wasn’t smiling. Kirishima had a drawn, intense look on his face that Bakugou realized with a cold jolt of dread was… what? Anger? It looked alien on his face.
But it was definitely just a one-time weird mood from Kirishima, so it was fine. He was just serious because of Aizawa’s lecture, he bet. Everything was fine. Bakugou needed to get the fuck over himself and stop reading so much into one stupid expression.
But it wasn’t just one.

“Did your father abuse your mother?” Sano asks, and the way she says it is almost clinical and detached despite the kindness naturally laced in her speech.
Shouto nods, then realizes Sano probably can’t see the motion. “Yes…” he croaks.
A few moments of silence pass, and it feels like an eternity.
Then comes:
“Did your father abuse you?”
Ice creeps across the back of Shouto’s knuckles, snaking down his wrists and up his arms beneath his blazer and collared shirt. In his mind, he can hear Natsuo’s voice playing like a CD skipping to only the chorus of a song, and the chorus keeps repeating.
“He’s hurt you, too.”

Flambae’s eyes lit as his gaze roamed Robert's frame, sinking lower and lower until they finally rose back up to stare down his tired face. “Wow, you look like—shittier than usual today. What the fuck happened to you?”
Robert held out his hand, folding his fingers as he listed off points, “Dead phone, no alarm, oh, and an asshole shoved himself in my face as soon as I got to work.”
Flambae’s grimace shifted to a smirk at the shorter man’s words, “You know your…” He fingered the collar of Robert’s shirt, and he could swear the man's fingers were about to burn right through the thin fabric, the heat of them nearly searing his skin.
