Summary
Carla has been a thorn in Kojiro's side since her creation. She's like an extra limb for Kaoru, another way for him to slide underneath Kojiro's skin and prickle. But at least she can't lie. At least she's grown a habit of being more forthcoming than Kaoru himself.
Then again, Kojiro shouldn't have needed a damn robot to tell him that the man he's known for twenty years isn't doing well.

Summary
There's a strength in her gaze that looks newfound, a lilt in her words and her giggles that carries across the building.
When Aina approaches, though, she withdraws again. Elusive, cordial, rightfully protecting herself.
If only it could be as simple, as procedural as fighting a fire, removing debris and tracking frenetic heat sources. She wants to sit between her mother's knees again while she brushes her hair, asking what to do if you want to be someone's friend.

Summary
Galo is hopelessly single-minded and stubborn - where Lio will try a thousand different paths and methods to carry out a plan, Galo will hammer away from the same angle until it works. He's good at slowly wearing Lio down, chipping away, but Lio knows that he desires retaliation just as fiercely.

Summary
"Hey, it's not so bad!" Galo's optimism puffs him up again, and he turns to face Lio. "Just have to stay hydrated, right? Maybe take a couple cold showers? We overcame a climate apocalypse, Lio! The heat is nothing we can't handle together!"

"Know where I'm gonna take you," he murmurs, "when we go back to the city?"
Meis chuckles; "Hm?"
Gueira leans in, voice dark against Meis' ear as he whispers, "Clerk's office."
"Oh," Meis breathes.
"Yeah." Gueira nips at his lobe, kisses his bare collarbone; the spot that's a mirror of his own tattoo, his own promise. "We're gonna do this right. Better late than never."

Someday Lio will teach him how to start a fire on bedsheets without burning them, but not tonight. He has to demonstrate first, after all.

Summary
Galo asks him if he wants breakfast, no longer perturbed by the sleeping body at the foot of his couch. Lio pretends not to be stirred by the sizzle of bacon.
It's the nicest floor he's ever slept on.

Summary
Galo's finger traces a seam on the blanket beside them. "They...they really love you.”
“Yeah,” Lio breathes, waiting.
“In a way that I can’t. That I don’t know how.” Galo settles into a sitting position, looking down at the gap between them on the bed.
It's impossible to love the man that Gueira and Meis had sworn themselves to; that man is gone. Galo hadn't ever met him, not under the right circumstances.

Summary
Lio doesn't feel qualified to assess if Galo's aversion to fire can be soothed by exposure therapy. Still, it feels like there's something else just beneath the surface that he hasn't grasped, something else Galo needs.
"Hey," Lio murmurs into Galo's ear, nails grazing his shoulders. "I put out a fire for the first time, because of you."

"What do you want, Thymos?"
He wants to wake up again, start this day over and pin Kray's medal to his chest. He wants to get pizza with his friends and make everyone around him feel safe. He wants to go back to thinking everything he's done, everything he's been taught to believe is right.
But he can't. He meets Lio's eyes.
"I want to know the truth."

Summary
"What's gotten into you, babe?" Galo asks, tone easy, watching from the adjoined kitchen as Lio sets the tree on the end table by the couch. "Thought Christmas wasn't your thing."
"It's not," Lio insists, poking the tiny bulbs on the tree's string of lights. "This city's poisoned me."
