Summary
The stories in the Backstage Series are intended to fit seamlessly into canon. They contain elements that canon never showed, but don’t directly contradict — nor are contradicted by — canon itself. (This covers all seven TV seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and all five seasons of Angel: the Series, but not the post-series comics for Buffy or Angel either one.)
The Queenverse stories are sort-of included as Backstage, since they take place in an alternate universe where Cordelia became a Slayer (as seen in “Each Proud Division”); additionally, the drabbles in the Snapshots series are done for the Backstage stories themselves. Queenverse and Snapshots have their own series, then, but are de facto a part of the Backstage setup.
