He stares at the mask with a foreign feeling in his chest.
Maybe the Universe is mocking him. Maybe this isn’t a second chance, but instead an elaborate scheme to make him feel annoyed and guilty.“If you’re going to be climbing up the ventilation system, you need some protection for that pretty face of yours,” Mel explains, tapping her chin. “Also, the proper reaction is, still, saying thank you.”
Viktor scowls at her.
“Relinquish the flesh!” She exclaims, ignoring his annoyance; a joyful smile on her face.
Maybe he should've just died when he had the chance to.
Or: Death is supposed to be final, or so Viktor thought; because if it is, then why had he woken up in his childhood bedroom?
Or; after the finale, rather than dying, Viktor is spat out back in the past. Ridden with guilt, he decides to change the outcome of his fate. He helps people along the way.

Calling the food good is a stretch, but Jayce has plenty of time to improve his culinary skills.
“Don't you want to return home, Jayce? You would likely be a hero, a true man of-”
“I'm not going to any home that you're not welcome in.” It isn't a leap, after all, to assume that Viktor would be imprisoned or worse for what he's done. If this is the prison Viktor is relegated to, he'll gladly share it if it means his friend can have some comfort.
Viktor meets his eyes for a moment, sizing up the man in front of him. There's a softness to his expression that's heartbreaking. Reaching for a piece of bread, Viktor breaks the silence that has suddenly fallen over the room.

Viktor takes his hand and Jayce can't decide what to focus on- the tattoos on the back of his hand or the way his hands are so proportionately large and yet small compared to his own. Then he realizes Viktor is giving him an odd look, because he isn't shaking the hand at all. He hastily pulls the hand away.
“I believe we work across the street from each other,” Viktor continues. “I've seen you around.”
“Yeah, I've uh. I've seen you too.”in which two men who work at businesses across the street from each other fall in love.

Summary
As Jayce looks at Viktor, his thin figure backed by the huge drawing of the Hexcrystal, he realizes that maybe the problem is that other people think Viktor doesn’t deserve to be confident. It’s surprising to them, wrong-seeming, when he doesn’t wilt under their gaze.
