    This is the first entry in the Safety Net Trilogy, exploring the heart of who Dick Grayson is through his relationships and hardships.

    Robin Flies at Dawn explores the bonds he forms at the start of his origin, and we see how that makes him the hero we all know and love.

    This story can be read as standalone while still being part of my own not-so-little canon universe starring Dick Grayson, Batman, Alfred, and (eventually) The Titans, the Batfamily, and tons of other DC characters.

    Clark realized two things at that moment. Well, three. Honestly he wasn’t convinced he knew how to count anymore.

    He realized that Bruce and Batman started with the same letter. He realized that either Gotham had two duos of well-off father son combos by sheer coincidence or that belly laugh was just how kids his age always sounded. And weirdly enough Clark had never really been that close to meeting Dick, ever. Not that he had any reason to. But the one time he’d gotten close enough, when he’d seen them at Wayne Enterprises, Bruce had scolded him like Clark was shaking him down for gossip and insider secrets.

    Clark is covering a WE conference when he realizes the boy Bruce Wayne has taken in bears a striking resemblance to another boy he knows. Which Clark is pretty sure would make Bruce Batman.

    The moment the object hit the ground, it erupted –a blinding detonation of pure white light that swallowed the entire rooftop. No sound. No heat. Just light. So bright it seared through his closed eyelids, through his hands thrown up to shield his face, through every attempt his body made to protect itself.

    Damian stumbled backward, disoriented, his vision bleached into nothing. He blinked rapidly, but the world refused to come back into focus. For a terrifying few seconds, he was completely blind.

    When his vision finally returned - patchy and blurred at the edges - the rooftop was empty.

    After dying in the league protecting Damian, Jason is found in a dug out grave site he finds himself in an alternate universe in the past... waking up in Gotham General Hospital, and somehow still gets adopted by this alt version of Bruce.

    - Extract -

    After a few more minuets of crying Bruce let the boy go, sitting next to him on the bed as Jason lays his head on Bruce's chest, the older of the two stroking his hair,
    "Hey Jay, do you know why we came here today?"
    "Nurse says you want to foster me..." Jason mumbles,
    "Hm, that's right, but do you want me to?" The question was so simple, yet meant so much, it was the first time Jason had been given his own choice in what felt like years, he couldn't help it he sobbed again - louder than before.
    "I just want my dad back..."
    "Oh, Jay..." Bruce holds him closer, chin rested on the boys head,

    ‘I can feel your grief - I know what you have lost. I could send you back - you could get him back. Just let me do this. Let me save my sister and I’ll let you save your son.’

    Round and round the words ran in his head. Only Robin stepping forward and taking over the negotiations had saved him from answering. He had faltered, in the moment, becoming more Bruce than Batman. His grief felt fresh in a way it had not in a long time. The guilt at that particular realization didn’t help, either.

    Bruce has a much needed conversation with Tim after an encounter with a mage leaves them both feeling off-balance.

    Batman nods, "Some would even say I'm a mother."

    "You're an omega?" Superman asks, baffled. He composes himself quickly. "Sorry, I didn't mean—"

    "It's alright. I would be shocked too. I don't exactly seem like the motherly type."

    He was younger than Dick had ever seen him in person. Doing the math in his head, the Bruce before him would have been about nineteen. His hair was long and greasy, almost brushing his shoulders. Choppy bangs laid across his forehead and kept falling into his eyes. He was so pale. Even for Bruce. His cheeks were sunken in and the bags under his eyes were so dark they could have been bruises.

    “No way,” Jason gibed. “This skinny rat is Bruce?”

    Bruce scowled. “Who’re y'calling a rat, ya' fuckin' jagoff?”

    “What the fuck did you just call me?”
