He should’ve expected the fist that came flying at his face, but it always takes him by surprise. Heat and pain blooms under his eye, but he barely feels it, slightly numb. So instead, Tim pounces.

Logically, Tim knows that Bruce wouldn’t be upset over a bad grade. He knows because Bruce has told him. And so has Jason and Dick and Alfred. Tim knows, okay? He knows and he understands but some days his brain just doesn’t get the memo and convinces Tim that he’s still bad, still an idiot, still a disappointment.
Tim really doesn’t want to disappoint Bruce.

He expects literally anyone except for the person he hears on the other end of the line.

Summary
In Tim’s short time on the earth, sixteen years, seven months, two days, and a handful of hours to be exact, he’d developed a very impressive talent.
This talent wasn’t impressive to anyone except himself and maybe Bruce, but it was a talent nonetheless.
His talent, the ability to end up in terrible situations, was unbelievable. This current example took the cake. He was pretty sure he’d rather be back in the alley that the Penguin hit him over the head with a golf club in. Or the night that he went flying into the river after an explosive went off and got shit water in his lungs.
Anywhere would be better than here, biting back tears as below zero temperatures whipped against his face. Oh, and, with Jason Todd trudging along beside him, silent as ever.

Technically takes place in one of the two alternate universes I have set for a longer fic I'm writing, although it takes place fully before anything that will be in that and it's not super important.
Mostly it's just an excuse to write excited Tim and soft Bruce.

With his captors failing to reach his parents for ransom, he's able to escape, only to discover he's no longer in Gotham, and he has no way home.

“I could, but that’s the fine if you don’t come over next weekend.” Jason explains. “Because now B’s going to be all broody this weekend, and if I have to deal with that two weekends in a row, I get to eat your chips.”
“Alright, fine I’ll come over next weekend if you're so…” Dick trails off as he notices something strange on the sidewalk in front of him. “Jay I’ve got to go, I’ll call you back.”
“Dick, Wha-” Dick hangs up before Jason can finish, he feels bad, but this is more pressing. A small figure is trudging through the storm, occasionally stumbling like they’re injured. Far too tiny to be an adult.
