“Bye, Buck,” Eddie says. His hand is still on Buck’s shoulder.
“Bye, Eddie,” Buck says, voice barely audible over the rain. “Call me when you get there.”
“I will.” Eddie starts walking towards his truck, one hand holding Buck’s cookies, the other lingering on his shoulder until he’s far away enough that his fingers slip off.
Buck doesn’t turn away as Eddie gets inside, turns the car on, and starts driving away. He hopes Eddie doesn’t look in the rearview mirror and see the look on his face grow more pathetic and heartbroken with every passing second.Bookmarked by cardig6n

“Christopher,” Eddie responds, “he’s seven months.”
“Man, he’s super adorable,” the guy smiles, “I, uh, I love babies.”
Eddie smiles back, “I love this one, I’m all he’s got. His mother’s not in the picture,” and suddenly Eddie is panicking about oversharing to a kind stranger until the guy speaks again.
“Well I’m sure he’s very lucky to have you,” he says, “I’m Buck, by the way.”
