“Sorry,” Steve says. “I’m sorry, I know this doesn’t make any sense to you, but can I just–”
Eddie lets him approach, this time. Lets him reach out to touch, to curl his fingers in the hem of Eddie’s shirt.
“Sorry, I know I probably sound crazy, I just––” he pulls it up, stares at Eddie’s side, and then lets out a hysterical little noise that sounds like a cross between a laugh and a sob.
“You’re ok,” Steve says.
His fingers are hot on Eddie’s skin, pressed light and shockingly reverent to the space between his hip and rib cage.
“You’re ok,” he repeats. It sounds like he’s trying to convince himself.
“Hey,” Eddie says. It comes out more breathless than he’d prefer but Steve fucking Harrington has him backed against a wall in a bathroom with his hands up Eddie’s shirt so he thinks a little lack of air is warranted. “Are you ok?”
The fingers on his abdomen flex. "No,” Steve says. His eyes are wide and fathomless and the look on his face is terrible. “No, I’m not even remotely ok.”

Summary
Harrington, completely oblivious to Eddie’s entire world crashing down around him, stretches so that his shirt rides up. It exposes a mole on his lower back, and Eddie snaps his pencil right in half.
Eddie startles at the noise it makes, then admires how cleanly his pencil broke, and then he realises the class has gone quiet.
A few kids turn to shoot him a look, including Harrington, so Eddie does the only logical thing he can do: he propels out of his seat and jumps out of the open window.

It’s nice to be compared to his mom for once. Most of his life, he’s been likened to dear old dad. Al Munson and his gambling addiction, drugs, and alcohol. Al Munson and his penchant for grand theft auto. Al Munson who never graduated high school, who gave Eddie his last name and his first pocket knife only under the condition that he learn how to pick locks with it. Other than Wayne, no one ever says You’re just like your mom.
Well, until Steve Harrington, apparently. What a fucking turn of events.
Or, Eddie Munson smokes and thinks beneath the light of the chilly moon, the heat of Steve's thigh pressed comfortably against his own.

The whole thing was Dustin’s fault. Steve was almost sure of it.
Steve picked up the phone at Family Video and heard, “Hi, Harrington.” The fact that it was Eddie was only the first surprise. “Look, do you want to come over for Christmas?”
Steve frowned. “Did Henderson put you up to this?” He was aware that he hadn’t actually said no.

This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
No, wait. That’s not right. That’s Hitchhiker's Guide. Or was it Restaurant at the End of the Universe? Whatever, not important.
Eddie Munson died on March 27th, 1986.
Except…he didn’t. He couldn’t have. Because Eddie Munson is currently arguing with himself in his fucking head about sci-fi quotes, which doesn’t feel especially like something that a dead person would have the capacity to do.
The bats had killed him. There had been pain, and the sick sensation of tearing flesh. He’d had to swallow past a mouthful of his own blood to tell Henderson he loved him. Surely those were symptoms of imminent death.
And yet.
On April 1st, 1986, Eddie Munson opens his eyes in a dim hospital room. There’s a gasp from his left, and he tries to turn his head towards the source.
“Easy there, kid. They’ve got you trussed up pretty good.”
Eddie doesn’t need to see him. He’d know that voice anywhere, in any universe, hell dimension or otherwise.
“Uncle Wayne?”

Steve considers suggesting he sleep on the floor or in the armchair or something? Because that feels like the sort of polite, chivalrous thing he would do if it were a girl, but it’s not a girl, it’s Eddie, and suggesting it feels a little like he’d be calling attention to something he’d really rather they didn’t look at too closely.
Namely, that Steve has a big stupid crush and he doesn’t know what to do about it.

Summary
Eddie doesn’t know when it went from the Harringtons’ house to Steve’s house in Eddie’s brain but that’s what it is now. It’s Steve’s space and seeing him smile uncomfortably when he opens the door, usher Eddie and Robin to the kitchen with a quick glance at the living room where the television is on, well that just doesn’t sit right.

“Eddie,” Steve says softly. Then, when Eddie still hasn’t heard, just a touch louder: “Eddie.”
Eddie startles, blinking rapidly. His eyes refocus, land on Steve—but a slightly dreamy, captivated quality remains, as if he’s still seeing an afterimage of the lights.
“Oh,” he says, sounds almost sheepish.
“Hey,” Steve says, smiling. “You doing good over there? You look like you found proof that, like, Santa’s real or something.”
Eddie chuckles under his breath, but he doesn’t reply.
His hand returns to that spot again, dipping in and out of the light like he’s sat by a creek, fingers dragging through the water.
“Y’know,” Eddie begins, so quietly. Achingly wistful. “If it was all like this… I wouldn’t mind it.”
