Summary
Mike has always been good at creating stories. He brought entire worlds to life and hidden paths bloomed on the tip of his tongue; words were his magic language.
Will used to watch him, full of awe and wonder: he was his first listener. His first reader.
Will was quieter than Mike. He was used to taking up as little space as possible. The only people with whom he truly felt safe were Mike and his older brother Jonathan. His language was colour: Will was good at drawing, at bringing Mike’s stories to life with colored pencils, with crayons. When speaking made him too anxious, he drew: Will drew his dreams, his nightmares.
Mike was his first admirer. The first one to have the privilege of walking through his private, secret museum.
( ... )Mike, finally, looks at Will. He becomes a child again, remembering himself and noticing the first signs of Will’s possession: his restless visions, his drifting dissociation, his quiet, heavy silence, his creeping alienation.
Mike’s heart swells painfully, like the sails of a boat.
Will keeps staring at the sea.His gaze is blank.

Will stormed up to Mike, mouth parted, chest heaving, and shoved his fingers in Mike’s hair, gripping at the base of his skull. Mike winced a little, accepting his punishment, until he saw the look on Will’s face.
“Kiss me.” Will stepped closer, “Kiss me again, Mike.”
It had been seven years since the party ended in Mike Wheeler’s basement that night after graduation. His friends moved on without him; living the stories the paladin once wrote for his beloved cleric, his bard, his ranger, and his zoomer. Mike stayed in Indiana, he worked as an engineer, he came home to his cat and ate microwaved dinners. He had been drowning in a sea of conformity, grasping at the only lifeline that ever made sense to him, his imagination.
Or- Mike Wheeler ends up in New York with no plan, wondering if his former best friend still lived in the city. He felt aimless, close to giving up and going back to Hawkins, when he saw a painting of his younger self hung in a gallery, a plaque next to the frame reading, “First Love-W.B”. Mike’s world turned upside down once again, when he was faced with the reality that he’d always been too scared to admit. He had to find Will.

Wrapping a gentle hand around the doorframe, Will stopped himself just before the entrance to the bathroom. The sun caught the tips of his hair in a golden light, the damp of the bathroom air multiplying infinitely and pressing down on Mike’s chest. Streaks of honeyed sunlight outlined Will’s features, a small smile pulling at the corners of his mouth, parted as if caught just before a morning greeting. Mike's eyes trailed the outline of his lips, moving, moving, moving…

Summary
Vecna has always known where to look for cracks.
Mike Wheeler has spent years convincing himself that the tightness in his chest is just fear, that the anger is just stress, that the way his thoughts circle Will Byers means nothing at all. He’s good at burying things, a bit too good. Nightmares, headaches, memories from the Upside Down never really went away… and neither did the truth he refuses to name.
When Vecna finally reaches into Mike’s mind, he doesn’t find weakness. He finds love. Raw, desperate, and violently repressed.
As Vecna peels back Mike’s memories and thoughts, forcing him to confront what he’s been running from, Mike is left to reckon with the terrifying realization but he just drifts further away, convinced he’s imagining things that could never be real. While Will watches his best friend slowly go insane unable to repress his feelings after doing so since 6th grade.
A slow-burn, angst-heavy exploration of repression, internalized homophobia, and the devastating cost of never saying what you mean.

No, Steve Harrington has a dark past he's desperate to escape, however that gets much harder when Will Byers goes missing and Steve just can’t shake the feeling that something is very wrong in Hawkins, something that's pointing straight to his past. But everything will be fine, right? All he has to do is pretend everything is normal.

The boys were grown now, scattered across colleges and new lives—but Mike and Will stayed tethered by late-night walkie-talkie calls, forming a bond neither of them saw coming. It all led to a long-awaited reunion with the party and The Camping Trip (of a Lifetime).
"Remember when you said you didn't like girls? It's sorta like that. But different." 'Different? Different how?' Will wondered, allowing for Mike to proceed. "I didn't know the term for it until recently. But… I'm bisexual." He comes out to him, throwing Will into shock. This was a huge revelation. And Will had mixed feelings of pride and empathy for his friend.
A/N: I don’t have a strict outline, and I’m letting the plot take me where it wants to go. There will be eventual explicit content down the line—possibly involving a shared tent, possibly not. Reader discretion advised. Updates will come as motivation strikes, so thank you for your patience.
