Kunigami doesn’t know why he agrees.
When Ego first announced that they would be let out of the facility for Christmas and New Year’s, he wasn’t even planning on leaving. He’s aware that his family definitely misses him, but he still doesn’t know how to face them just yet. (A pang of guilt always hits him when he thinks of them. They’re definitely watching the matches; how must they feel, seeing him like this?)
His perfectly constructed plan is immediately halted when he sees Bachira bounding towards him from a distance, and the only thought that comes to mind is oh no.
Kunigami begrudgingly spends time with his friends over winter break and confronts some important feelings.

The first time he meets Bachira outside their assigned dormitory for some after-hours training, Isagi views it as a mutually-beneficial arrangement, ready to make the most of it by learning a thing or two from this exceptionally talented, yet undeniably odd dribbler—while friendly and perhaps a little too touchy-feely, Bachira Meguru doesn’t fail to give Isagi the chills. There’s nothing more to it, really; they’re supposed to head in, practice shooting and passing, and then leave. No pointless talking or getting to know each other on a deeper level.
That was the initial idea.
Turns out that Bachira is quite the chatterbox. He also proves to be exceptionally hard to, well, not like.
Bachira Meguru falls hard, but Isagi Yoichi falls harder.

“Hey Suguru,” Satoru says, resting his head on the arm slung around the back of the bench. He looks up at Suguru (whether he is a figment of his imagination or a specter, it doesn’t matter, because he is here and he is, in this moment, as real as the day Satoru lost him). “Don’t I deserve to rest now?”
“Mm,” Suguru hums in response, reaching out to card his fingers through the strands of Satoru’s cloud-white hair. “You do.”
No, Satoru thinks, reprising his earlier train of thought. This Suguru feels a little bit more like the version he was back when Satoru believed that maybe, foolishly, a little part of him belonged to him. He didn’t know what he wanted back then, or what it meant to desire immortalization in the form of Suguru’s eyes on him at all times, but now he knows, and he almost wants to give words to the regret forming in his lungs like the petals of a crushed flower, but he’s so so tired and Suguru is so so warm.
(Or, Gojo Satoru ends up in the afterlife, surrounded by some of the people he loves most in this world. Of course there's a catch.)
