Summary
nick is deep in the mire of graduate school, working at a publishing house, and struggling to figure out who he is. charlie unexpectedly becomes the owner of an independent bookshop and a companion to the sweetest man he’s ever met as he attempts to outrun his past. nick and charlie meet in an unusual way and form a strong friendship, navigating their recent breakups together. they develop a way of communicating by trading secrets, sometimes with little or no context. but nick and charlie’s story is not what it appears. what was once a simple, wholesome friendship begins to devolve into a complicated relationship marred by lies, secrets, and violence.

tldr? this is a story of acceptance, love, and transgression. it’s not like the romance in the books they read, but it’s theirs. in this story, revelations and confessions lead to a deeper bond; their flaws and sometimes ugly histories only serving to draw them closer.
