“Of course you’d see it that way; your understanding of Special Abilities is so painfully rudimentary,” Akutagawa scoffs, but there’s the barest tremble beneath his words, and when Atsushi shoves another bite of onigiri into his mouth, Akutagawa’s eyes track its movements perfectly.
So that’s what this is about, Atsushi thinks, his anger dissipating as quickly as it came. What an idiot. You know you can just say that you’re hungry, right?

I’d go to visit him all the time, and I’d bring flowers and nice stuff to cheer him up, and he’d just yell at me to, ‘get gone, boy! Quit bringing me shit and go and do something worthwhile!’”
“I’m not ashamed of you,” he admits, small, timid, and knows Satoru doesn’t believe him one bit by the way his face does something complicated. A smile, a grimace, a wince.
“Of course not,” he says, and it sounds just as unsteady as Megumi feels.

It takes a bit more soft coaxing, until Megumi finally peeks over the covers. His eyes are red-rimmed, and the tip of his nose glows pink in the moonlight.
Gojo’s heart stammers. Megumi had been crying. The emotionless, bratty kid that had stubbornly squeezed past the iron defences of Gojo’s heart, has been in pain and is crying.
“Megumi,” Gojo says softly, at a loss for words.
At this time of the night, in this mood, with sleep dragging the vowels of his words into something quiet and raspy, Gojo can’t find the energy to joke. Instead, he leans in, hands ready to scoop the little boy up and hide him from the rest of the world. Then, he stops. Megumi probably wouldn’t appreciate that.
The first words that come out of Megumi’s mouth are unexpected. “I’m a bad person.”

His vision begins to flicker, the world spinning under his feet. Another step, another breath. Megumi. He needs to find Megumi.
Where is he?
Despite it all, despite the odds stacked against him, Gojo keeps going. Even if it hurts, he keeps going. He needs to. Megumi needs him.
And he promised – to Tsumiki, to himself, to Megumi – that he’ll do it. Whatever it takes, whatever it does to his mind and body, it doesn’t matter.
He’ll bring Megumi home.

That’s what he had in mind, apparently. Becoming their legal guardian, paying their bills and stuff, training Megumi Fushiguro as a trump card and that’s it. Nothing more, nothing less. Not a parent, just a guardian in paper and a teacher.
Well, something must’ve gone very wrong because right now, Gojo “I’m not really adopting them” Satoru is carrying a very sleepy 6 years old Megumi Fushiguro in his arms. The kid’s sleeping with his arms around Gojo’s neck, Gojo is questioning life while walking in the street and people around them are trying not to make it obvious that they’re staring at the two because well, that’s a 6’3 tall white haired and blue eyed high schooler carrying a small child with no expression on his face.

Satoru, standing over the boy, peering down his nose at him, feels something akin to desperation at the sorry state of his feathers.
“When was the last time you were bathed?” The question is layered with many more that Satoru would like to volley at the chick. He holds his tongue,a decision that was well made, the boy flinches back, just slightly and glares up at Satoru warily. The disarray of his wings extends to his hair, and down into his pale face, smeared with exhaustion and hunger.

By week five, she’s recovered and trusted enough to start taking short walks on her own, though she doesn’t miss how Joel almost always “happens” to be on the porch when she gets back, always giving her a quick once-over as if she’s gotten into something dangerous in the ten minutes she walked around without him. She rolls her eyes at it and grumbles to keep up appearances, but she can’t help liking it, just a little bit. She went three days of being so sick that she was unable to leave her bed in FEDRA when she was nine without anyone noticing. Now she thinks she’d be lucky to get a sneeze under the radar. It’s a lot, kind of, having someone so attentive.
…but it’s also pretty fucking nice.
Less nice is trying to find her feet in this new life, which requires all sorts of things she never knew she didn’t know.
Such as cracking an egg, apparently.
