Bill shakes his head. “They wuh-wuh-won’t let you t-t-take it. The b-b-b-blood, I mean.”
Eddie raises an eyebrow. “You’ve tried the blood-bank thing?”
“Yeah,” Bill shrugs. It had not been a successful venture; the employee he’d spoken to had not looked very happy when Bill had asked about making withdrawals. “They said I c-c-couldn’t have it.”
“Bill,” Stan says softly, in the way someone says oh, honey to a small child that has yet to learn the major facts of life.

“You shouldn’t be here, Tim. It isn’t safe,” Jon says, trying to muster enough detached formality to sound like the head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, rather than a frightened man who has been alone for far too long. The attempt is laughable; it’s hard to sound like the head of anything in a hospital bed.
“Nice to see you too, boss,” Tim retorts, but the banter has no levity in it. His face is fixed and impassive, with none of the good-humor Jon rarely sees him without.
They are both so very tired.

Martin bends over him again, kissing his shoulder through his soft cotton shirt. He feels Jon's head turn; feels his soft little sigh against his temple. He wants to feel it again.
"You," he whispers, pressing another kiss to his shoulder. "This." He tilts his face to Jon's neck, tonguing at his skin. "Always this."
