The snow was gone now, fading as they walked, melting into trickles that turned into streams and ran through pale yellow grass, slowly stirring with the first breezes of spring. Hank had forgotten how good it felt to be welcomed with a breath of life. “Here,” he said, pulling Connor to a stop. Crouching, he gestured for Connor to follow suit and put his hands over Connor’s, pressing them palm-down to the earth. “Feel that?”
Connor nodded, his fingers sifting through the rich dirt and sinking, further down, like he meant to grasp the roots. “There’s life here,” he said quietly, still pressing deeper. “Hiding under the cold.”
“Waiting to come out."

Hank is about to reach for him, even if he doesn't know how it can help, when Connor says, "And how am I supposed to convince someone I'm the prince when I don't even know who I am?"
"That's what you have us for," Hank offers.
"I'll...what? Memorize facts about the prince and then regurgitate them, even if they aren't true about me? Lie about stupid things like tea? I just..." He cuts himself off, pushing a hand through the curls hanging over his forehead in frustration.
"Just what?"
Connor looks down at his hands, shaking his head. "I just thought someone might know more about me than I do. I thought I could tell the truth about myself and finally have someone fill in all the pieces I don't know."
"Okay," Hank breathes, grasping him by the shoulder. "It's going to be okay."
And of course he doesn't know that, but if everything goes according to plan, he and Ben will be long gone with the reward money before he does.

Connor can't remember anything from before he was eight years old, except for vague details and the sense that he's cursed. Hank is down on his luck and just needs to get out.

Hank dives forward, grabbing for the microphone on Tom's headset and pulling it to his mouth. "Our pilot is having a stroke, we're going down, shit..."
And they are, they're plummeting towards the mountains below now, everything that just looked like white nothingness from far above coming into sharper focus. Connor pushes Hank back, throws him into his seat with a sort of decisive strength Hank wouldn't have expected from him. "Get your seatbelt on."
They touch down, the underside of the plane scraping violently against the ground. Hank watches as the tail of the plane is torn clean off, opening everything up around them, the winter winds howling and his ears popping violently. They're moving too fast, sliding down the mountain face with too much velocity.
When they finally hit something that brings them to a stop, it's going to fucking hurt.

Hank Anderson isn't prepared to lay his son to rest, or for the android revolution rising up around him, or for his charter plane to crash and leave him stranded in the mountains. But he especially isn't prepared for Connor.

In August of 2038, Connor faces a dilemma: either he go to therapy to work through his selective mutism, or he stands to lose his job as ASL teacher at Amanda Stern's Jericho Center of Education. She means well, although Connor himself doesn't see why he should go to therapy. He doesn't have any unresolved issues he needs to work through, he's just...not seen the need for using his voicebox since he was a child. He still doesn't, but pragmatically speaking, he cares more about keeping the one job he loves than the potential hazards of having to talk through things with a perfect stranger.
A few months down the line, it's at that same treatment center that he meets Hank Anderson, recovering alcoholic, and that chance encounter sets things in motion. Things that no one could have foreseen.
There are forces at work in the shadows, and before the year is over, Connor will find himself right at the center of it - with dire consequences.

His brother, Nines was going to be his head of house and they were going to wow the meanest food critics out there, including Hank. Only, Connor realised he doesn't want to slave away in a restaurant for the ungrateful rich. So the money he and Nines had put aside to buy their own restaurant is funnelled into buying a burger van and being happy.
